映画「エイリアン」(1979年)は、稀代の傑作です。
小学生の時に見て衝撃だったので、当時の自分と同じくらいの年齢になった子供たち（10歳、7歳）に見せようと思ったんだけど、雰囲気が怖いと言ってフェイス・ハガーが出る前に逃げられました。
仕方ないから一人で鑑賞しました。35年ぶりくらいに。
したらやっぱり凄い作品なのでハマって、未視聴だった前日譚シリーズ「プロメテウス」「コヴェナント」「ロムルス」をまとめて見て、いろいろなネット解説も漁っちゃいました。
日本語ではこのJapan Sci-Fiさんの解説シリーズが良かったです。
以下はネタバレ込みの感想です。これから見る人は、見てから戻ってきてね。

「プロメテウス」（2012）と「コヴェナント」（2017）は、エイリアンよりアンドロイドの怖さが際立つホラーでした。
AIの喧しい最近だからこそ、変にリアリティが増してる。
遠路不死を求める人間に激昂して瞬殺するエンジニア（創造主）も、優しくしてくれたショウ博士を猟奇的な実験材料にするデヴィッド（アンドロイド）も、一見、理解不能で怖いのです。
でも、それぞれの視点に立って振り返ると「なるほど、そうなるね…」「愛なのか！」と理屈がわかってしまう。
けど、私はやはりこっち側（普通の人間）なので、どこまでも受け入れがたく、共感できなくて怖いのです。
そして最新作「ロムルス」（2024）は、過去作品名場面へのオマージュもりもりのファンサービス作品ながら、惨劇の円環を辿ると企業（人間）がいたことがわかるとう構造に、怖っ！ってなる物語でした。
倫理が違いすぎるエンジニアやアンドロイドは理解不能で怖い。だけど外見が同じ人間の怪物性には、また別の受け入れがたさがあるのです。
唐突ながら、今、イーロン・マスクがアメリカという大国で権力の中枢にいるのが嫌だなと私が感じる理由、それは彼がエイリアン的だからです。
対話不能なレベルに価値基準や倫理観がちがってそうなんです。訳のわからない理由で致命的な動きをしそうだから、ちょっと怖いわけ。同じ人間なはずなんだけどね。
「わたしたち」と「かれら」の線引き。
「造り手」と「作られたもの」（エンジニアと人間、人間とアンドロイド）の相入れなさ、そして分かち難さ。
「異」なるものへの恐怖。
H.R.ギーガーという天才が創造したグロくて怖いのに目が離せなくなる「エイリアン」のデザインには、シナリオの細かい粗をなぎ倒す魅力があります。
タイトルももうこれしかないわというくらいハマっているのよね。
本当に素晴らしい作品です。

I watched the movie "Alien" (1979) again.
I remember being shocked and excited when I saw it as an elementary school student, so I wanted to watch it to my children.
However they were too scared and left the room before the facehugger even showed up.
I then watched the prequel series, "Prometheus," "Covenant," and "Romulus," which I hadn't seen before.
The movies left some questions unanswered, so I did some deep dives on fan sites.

In my opinion, "Prometheus" (2012) and "Covenant" (2017) were less about the Alien and more about the horror of AI (Androids). Although "Romulus" (2024) appears to be a fan service film, filled with references to past movies, it ultimately shows how human malice drives the recurring tragedies.
The recent surge in AI development gives this story an realistic edge.
The Engineer (creator) who violently rejects humanity's pursuit of immortality, and David (the Android) who subjects the compassionate Dr. Shaw to bizarre experiments – both are beyond our comprehension and deeply disturbing.
Yet, when you try to see things from their point of view, you find yourself understanding their motives. 'So that's why...' 'Was it love, perhaps?'
The pieces fall into place.
But ultimately, I remain on the side of humanity, unable to accept or relate to their actions, and that's what scares me.
The quite different perspectives of Engineers and Androids can be both incomprehensible and frightening.
However, the monstrous nature of those who seem to be fellow humans creates a unique level of horror.
This might seem abrupt, but one reason I'm not comfortable with Elon Musk wielding so much power in the United States is that I perceive him as alien.
It feels like his values and ethics are so different from most of us that meaningful dialogue seems difficult in some critical occasions. I worry he might make incomprehensible, even disastrous, decisions, despite being ostensibly one of us – a human being.
The boundary between "us" and "them."
The paradoxical relationship between creator and creation (engineer and human, human and android).
The fear of the other.
All of this is encapsulated in the grotesque, unsettling, yet captivating forms brought to life by the singular artist H.R. Giger, and in the very title "Alien."
It's a truly magnificent work.
