日本の安全保障環境と「ジール化」仮説When Power Seeks Itself:A Quiet Observation on U.S. Weakening and Japan’s Security Environment
English Abstract
This essay offers a cautious observation of recent shifts in the international security environment, using the metaphor of the Kingdom of Zeal from Chrono Trigger as an analytical lens.
The argument does not claim direct causality, but suggests that when a major power prioritizes the pursuit of strength and short-term outcomes over institutional trust and long-term credibility, it may paradoxically weaken its own deterrence.
From this perspective, the relative weakening of U.S. credibility—rather than its military capacity—raises concerns for regional stability, particularly regarding Taiwan.
The Ukraine war is referenced as a comparative case in which perceived ambiguity in deterrence may have influenced strategic calculations.
Given Japan’s high dependence on the U.S. security framework, this essay argues that Japan must quietly prepare for a more uncertain environment by strengthening defense capabilities and deepening multilayered partnerships with countries such as Australia, India, and South Korea.
This is not a prediction, but a record of observation shaped by historical analogy and structural analysis.
私の見立てでは、アメリカは近年「ジール王国化」しつつあるように見えます。
ここで言うジールとは、自らの正しさへの確信、力の探究、制度や関係よりも短期的成果を優先する傾向を指します。もちろん断定ではなく、行動様式からの推測です。
以前触れた『クロノ・トリガー』のジール王国は、力を求めた結果、最終的にその力によって自壊しました。私がこの比喩で言いたいのは、強さを誇示する振る舞いが、長期的には信用や同盟の基盤を摩耗させ、結果として国力を弱めうるという点です。
この視点から見ると、アメリカの相対的弱体化（軍事力そのものというより、抑止の信頼性や持続力の低下）が進む場合、台湾有事のリスクをより現実的に想定する必要が出てきます。
ウクライナ戦争は、その典型例として参照できます。直接の因果を断定することはできませんが、アメリカのアフガニスタン撤退が、ロシア側に「踏み込める余地」を与えた可能性は議論に値します。抑止は能力だけではなく、**意思と一貫性の“見え方”**によって左右されるからです。
もちろん、すぐに最悪の事態が起きるという話ではありません。
ただ、日本は安全保障上アメリカへの依存度が高く、仮にアメリカの信頼性が揺らぐ局面が続けば、中国が台湾に対して行動を強める誘因になりうる――この可能性を無視できないと感じています。これは早い結論かもしれませんが、私には不安な未来が見えてしまいます。
したがって、日本は「アメリカ依存の一本足」からの移行を進める必要があります。具体的には、オーストラリア、インド、韓国などとの実務的な連携強化を進めつつ、同時に防衛力の拡充（人員・装備・継戦能力・サイバー／情報領域を含む）を着実に積み上げることが求められます。
