Nothing

このNothing Phone(Nothing Technologies社)から2020年、たった5年前にできたデザインが衝撃的でした。

The Verge has seen the EXIF file for the anonymous photographer’s image, and can confirm it wasn’t captured using the Phone 3. According to the EXIF data, it was taken in 2023, long before the Phone 3 was released this year.

Nothing Phone was caught using stock photo in their new Nothing 3 phone recently.

Enlight me with the reason why people keep on doing such and think that they can get away with the social media watch guard nowadays.
Is it a human nature or what?

The use of stock photos as if they were genuine samples from the Nothing Phone 3 is part of a broader pattern seen across tech and other industries: companies sometimes engage in deceptive marketing—deliberately or via “oversights”—hoping to present their products in the best possible light, even if the material is not authentic.dpreview+2

Why Companies Use Fake or Stock Photos

  • Shortcuts in Demonstrating Capabilities: Launch events and retail demos often demand “wow factor” visuals. When actual product samples (especially camera photos from a new phone) aren’t available or don’t look as impressive, marketing teams may use stock photos as placeholders, sometimes either intentionally or accidentally failing to replace them with genuine samples before public release.androidauthority+1

  • Always-on Marketing Pressure: The rapid pace of product launches and the need to constantly impress in competitive markets tempt teams to cut corners for the sake of expediency or perceived necessity, hoping the audience won’t notice.techzim

  • Belief in Getting Away With It: Some marketers may assume that minor deceptions (especially with “licensed” images) won’t be easily uncovered, underestimating the vigilance and expertise of online communities, journalists, and even the original rights holders.republicworld+1

  • Legacy Thinking & Habit: Decades ago, verifying such claims was much more difficult for the average consumer. Today’s social media–driven ecosystem, with image search tools and public scrutiny, exposes misrepresentations quickly—yet old marketing reflexes persist.techzim

Human Nature and Psychology Behind Deceptive Marketing

  • Cognitive Dissonance and Risk Assessment: Even knowing discovery is likely, people (including marketers) may unconsciously rationalize or downplay the risk: “Everyone does it”, “It’s just a placeholder”, or “We need to look good to survive.” Humans are good at justifying behavior when there’s something to be gained and they believe consequences will be manageable.imperfect+1

  • Attention & Emotional Impact: Psychological research shows that people are more drawn to highly deceptive ads—the initial engagement may be stronger, as the brain pays more attention to impressive visuals even if their authenticity is unclear.sciencedaily

  • Optimism Bias: Many decision-makers assume, “It won’t happen to us,” failing to grasp how easily modern digital sleuths can cross-reference, reverse-search, and expose misrepresentations online.9to5google+1

Social Media as Watchdog: Why Exposure Is Now Inevitable

  • Transparency Tools: Enthusiasts and journalists use metadata, reverse image search, and direct inquiries to photographers to uncover fakes within hours of release.timesofindia.indiatimes+1

  • Collective Intelligence: Social media amplifies the reach and speed of detection—what might have slipped by unnoticed in the past becomes viral in hours or days, damaging reputations and fueling consumer mistrust.techzim

Is It Human Nature?

  • Partly yes: The drive to present oneself (or one’s product) in the best light is deeply rooted—humans have always used exaggeration, omission, and strategic presentation to shape perceptions.sciencedaily

  • But: In the digital age, this instinct clashes with new realities: hyper-transparency and connectedness mean that risky deception is usually discovered, often with larger reputational consequences than telling the less-exciting truth.imperfect+1

In summary, the mix of old marketing habits, cognitive biases, the urge to impress, and underestimation of social media vigilance leads even smart companies to attempt such shortcuts, despite the increasing odds of exposure and backlash in a connected world.dpreview+3

Sony → HTC → BlackBerry → Huawei → OPPO
BlackBerry 含めてTCLなので、みんな Made in China (PRC) です。
Sony
