Thank you for the pointer! Emulating Windows is indeed possible, but it’s a hassle and takes a lot of computing resources + disk space compared to just running the game natively. I’d really, really appreciate a regular Mac build!
Another suggestion I’d love to see at some point would be an improvement to the main looper.
Right now, composition is built quite strongly around the 4x4 / four-bar grid, which works really well for loops, but it can also make some ideas feel a little boxed in.
It could be really interesting to have a more continuous composition mode, where music doesn’t have to be divided into fixed four-bar blocks. That way, we could create longer notes, sustained sounds, melodies that stretch across several sections, and ideas that continue naturally instead of being cut when the next block starts.
Basically, something closer to a continuous timeline inside the looper, while still keeping the current grid system available for people who prefer it.
I think this could open OFFBEAT up to much more free-form composition and make it possible to create very different kinds of tracks and transitions.
Huge thanks to the OFFBEAT team for adding the save/archive system!! 🙌
Being able to keep our tracks and come back to them later is such a great addition, and honestly something I was really hoping to see in the game.
I also really appreciate how much you guys actually listen to the community and take feedback into account. It’s always great to see a dev team that genuinely pays attention to what players are asking for and keeps improving the game around that.
Really excited to see what comes next. Thanks again for all the work you’re putting into OFFBEAT! 🎛️🎶
Hey! I came across your game and really enjoyed it. I also loved the animation and visual style you’ve created for it. I’m a freelance animator/illustrator, and I was wondering if you’ve ever considered making a short animated teaser or cinematic clip to showcase the game.
If you’re interested, I’d love to share my work and discuss a few ideas for your game. Feel free to reach out to me!
bought this on steam but prefer commenting on itch, ive only played a bit of this game and it is so fun!!!!!! much like many other commenters ive been wanting to learn how to make music for a long time and this is such a good way to learn. not too railroad-y but also not intimidatingly open-ended. and the graphics are great too!
Thanks for making OFFBEAT! I love it! Making music felt like an unapproachable dream, but the game's playful approach made it much less intimidating. I'm having so much fun writing songs now.
I'd love it even more if you added a way to save and reopen old projects. Since I'm a novice, I'm always learning new things I wish I could add to my old compositions--and sometimes I notice I made a goof after it's too late!
If you added a way to sustain notes over the bar line, that would be swell, too!
Hi there!!! How are you? My name is Bárbara, and I really enjoyed your project! I was wondering if you’d be interested in having it translated into Brazilian Portuguese. If so, feel free to contact me on Discord: @fokkenvarbie <3 Looking forward to hearing from you!
Bought, downloaded and extracted! Game opens on a blank dark grey screen for about 3 seconds and then closes. As a result I've been unable to play the game. On windows, quite confused..
Hey ! I absolutely love this game and wanna buy it here (on itch). Just to be sure : will it be updated as early access goes on or will I have to re-download it regularly to get the updates ?
We'll be keeping Itch updated in sync with the Steam early access, so I think if you have the Itch client that should keep things updated for you (otherwise yes, you'd need to download latest).
I’m really enjoying OFFBEAT. I think it’s an incredible way to gradually learn how music creation works while simply having fun playing.
One of the things I like the most is being able to experiment with rhythms, samples, and different combinations without needing advanced music production knowledge. Personally, it’s helping me a lot to understand how to build tracks, especially Drum & Bass, and some of the things you can create in the game sound genuinely amazing.
I also wanted to leave a small suggestion for the future: it would be really cool if the recordings or loops we create could be saved inside the game itself, almost like a personal library, so we could reuse them later with the mixer. I think it would add a lot of depth if we could gradually build our own collection of sounds and bring them back into new mixes or songs.
I’ve also been checking out the roadmap and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming updates. I’m especially excited for the Techno-related content planned for December, particularly the new machines and tools for creating that kind of music. If you can already make such cool stuff with the game now, I’m very curious to see how far that side of it will go.
Overall, I think OFFBEAT has a huge amount of potential. It’s not just entertaining — it actually makes you want to learn, experiment, and understand music production better.
Great work. I’m really looking forward to seeing how OFFBEAT continues to grow.
Hey! Thanks for such an in depth comment here - we'll integrate your notes/suggestions with our other feedback, as we're actively updating the game during Early Access with community requests.
For other Mac users like myself… you can download game native and set up a free account and play like that! The only slight annoyance is that you have to have an internet connection to boot the game so it can authorize it. If you have a flight or something you can just boot it on wifi and leave it open. Sorry if this is super obvious! Maybe there are others out there who don’t game on their laptops at all and came just for this game because it is pretty niche! Love the game! Native Mac version would still be highly appreciated!
I think they meant GameHub for macOS since I don’t think GameNative exists on macOS. Sadly GameHub is a telemetry nightmare and GameHub Lite for macOS isn’t a thing yet. Alternatives are Whisky, CrossOver, Parallels…
Yes, thank you. I mean GameHub. I wasn't aware of the telemetry problems with it. As far as performance I've had no problems at least, but yeah that's unsettling.
I just finished playing the demo and was looking to review it when i saw that this got uploaded lol
the demo is rlly fun! if i have the money available in the future i plan to buy the full version :3
my feedback was going to be that i wish you could save and publish songs on your own instead of only at request, however it seems the full game is already out ;; i hope this is a feature, and if not, i hope you can add it! ^^
How the hell do i find my files on steam os? When i click on the hyperlink it sends me to a weird windows emulator thing that somehow works despite running on a linux device
super freaking fun!! i make music as a hobby and this is teaching me a ton of cool tricks. im really excited to see this progress. its a really really awesome idea with excellent execution so far.
Finished a stream playing this game and man oh man, this takes the cake. I just want to play this game for hours and create more music with my Tiger-01.
So im a music producer. work with a lot of artists in the rap scene not anyone famous or anything like that mostly local artists but its a good side gig. saying this to say i have pretty solid musical knowledge. This game is awesome i knew it would be right up my alley when i saw the sequencer and i love that you can select the complexity of the scales. excellent choice for accesibilty. 10/10 cant wait to play the full game.
Is there a way to save a song without needing to do so for a job? I started playing around with the synthesizer after the Uncle ringtone job and can't find a way to save what I make without starting one of the two hotel jobs :<
Yeah this is something we've been working on for the full release - you'll soon be able to save projects so you can pick up work where you left of, regardless of job.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! I can't wait to try the full version. Kind of a long shot, but how realisitic would it be to do stuff with real instruments? Sort of a pitch detection system to (for example) use a guitar to record riffs?
I am absolutely OBSESSED with this game. I cannot WAIT for the final game to come out and will be buying it as soon as I possibly can. 10000/10, no notes!!
Hi! This is definitely one of the coolest games I've tried in a while, it made me so excited and I lost track of time while playing it. As a hobby-ist producer myself, I can say it is very well made, I can really see this game teaching music production and basic DAW functionalities, in a playful and exciting way. One thing I would love to see added in the future is MIDI support, via some kind of recording device in the game. Well done, you guys are one of the many reasons the indie game dev industry continues to inspire and never disappoint!
ahh what a lovely comment - thanks for taking time to share. MIDI support very much on our list, hopefully we can find a solution for that once we've brought the game to early access (date incoming soon!)

How do I continue my save file after updating?
Almost bought the game but realized there’s no Mac build. Please release one and I’d happily play it!
You can buy it here and use game hub to play it!

hi
how are you?
My eyes sometimes process words wrong at first and I absolutely thought this game was called BeatOff for a second lol

Hi, i'm enjoying this game so far, it's incredibly easy and fun, but i cannot find the wav files in my computer, i downloaded it from steam.

Damn, this is pretty nice and really nostalgic for us 80`s kids! We used to play music on our old dial-up home phones just like that!:)
Great job on this game! I know some musicians who would LOVE this so will let them know about it!
I had a very fun time playing this game, great job! I also made a video recording my experience if you'd like to check that out

Hi there - a very odd one. Can you send a dxdiag and any other details to support[at]pantaloon[dot]io and we can pass on to the team to take a look.
