The music platform is opening up a comments section, allowing readers to score and debate releases on the site.
Pitchfork has announced a new subscription model, which will see the online magazine rolling out a comments section.
At $5 per month, subscribers can engage with the platform's reviews via the comment section, and add their own scores. The move is part of a bid to "publish our readers' taste and opinions, too," according to a letter published to Instagram today, January 20th, by editor Mano Sundaresan. The comment section will be moderated by Pitchfork editors.
Subscribers will also be able to access Pitchfork's full archive, which features over 30,000 reviews. Currently, non-subscribers can read four articles per month.
"What we're emphasising by evolving the site to capture the voices and taste of our readers is that music and music criticism are inherently social," the post continued. "The Pitchfork review has always been authoritative. We want our reviews to be generative, and we hope the comments section and other cool new tools on the site will deepen our readers' connection to music and each other."
The subscription package has been released as part of the site's 30th anniversary celebrations. Read the post in full.
