Hi! Indonesian designer here...
I have loved games since I was very young. Games like the PSX console, Monopoly, and many old Java mobile games helped color my childhood. However, I was born into a family that struggled with serious financial hardship. My parents rarely had stable work, and their income was very limited. Even covering daily food and basic needs was often a struggle. Because of that, they could not support my childhood desire to explore and play the many kinds of games that, of course, also cost money.
But I did not give up. If I could not afford to play games, then I would create my own.
Since the third grade of elementary school, I had been making all kinds of games and puzzles using simple materials like paper, dice, and pawns from old chess, Monopoly, and Snakes and Ladders sets. Thankfully, my friends loved the games I made. They were even willing to spend their own money to buy and play my creations. I kept doing this until I graduated from high school. When I entered college and later started working, I took a break from designing games.
Later, during the COVID pandemic in 2020, I came across an online shop that sold modern board games. That was the moment I realized that board games were not limited to chess, Monopoly, or Snakes and Ladders. The world of board games had grown into something far broader, more creative, and far more exciting than I had ever imagined.
It turned out I was not alone 😊
Since then, the fire to design more games has been lit once again.
