Here is a brief summary of its core principles: * **Main Goals:** It aims to maximize the agent's autonomous run-time, multiply a single engineer's impact by running parallel tasks, and offload tedious boilerplate coding. * **The "Harness":** A raw model is virtually useless without heavy investment in a harness—comprising tools, system prompts, and strict guardrails—to reliably guide the model and enforce coding policies. * **Loss of Micro-Control:** Engineers must surrender idiosyncratic stylistic preferences; if the agent's code passes automated linters and tests, it is accepted. * **Meta-Debugging:** When failures occur, engineers no longer fix code syntax. Instead, they debug the workflow itself—adjusting the agent's tools, search queries, or prompt constraints to ensure repeatable success. View details
Preview abstract Enterprise service delivery platforms, while vital for HR operations, create significant challenges in managing the risks of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) exposure. The integration of Generative AI offers new efficiencies but also amplifies these risks. Existing solutions—ranging from manual redaction and rule-based Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to inflexible data masking—fail to provide a nuanced, integrated approach. This paper introduces the Dual-Mode Privacy Guard (DMPG), a conceptual framework that establishes a model for Augmented Compliance. The framework provides a "defense-in-depth" strategy built on three pillars: (1) a Zero-Trust AI Foundation leveraging a verifiable, non-retention API gateway to ensure data privacy; (2) a proactive "Guardrail" that uses AI to detect and flag potential PII for human-in-the-loop review; and (3) an on-demand "Tool" that allows users to create securely anonymized data assets. By differentiating between proactive monitoring and reactive utility, the DMPG shifts the compliance paradigm from a manual burden to an AI-assisted process that enhances, rather than replaces, human oversight. This paper details the framework’s platform-agnostic architecture, using Salesforce as a reference implementation, and argues for its novelty as a model for operationalizing privacy principles within modern enterprise systems. Approximate vs Precise: An experiment in what impacts user choice when apps request location access

Preview abstract User location data is highly sensitive, yet commonly requested by mobile apps for both core functionality and monetization. To improve user privacy, the major mobile platforms, Android and iOS, made changes so that when apps request precise location access, users can choose to share only their approximate location. However, the platforms have diverging interfaces: Android offers a side-by-side choice and iOS offers a corner toggle. This study evaluates which factors impact users’ choices when apps request location access via a randomized controlled experiment with 2579 US Android users. We tested the impact of app type, whether a reason for the request was provided, and the quality and content of the reason, including monetization. We do not find the reasons have an effect. Instead, we find users’ choices are impacted by app type and user demographics. We find that when users are given a side-by-side choice to allow approximate versus precise location access, they make reasonable choices. Of users who allowed access, the vast majority (90.7%) chose precise for a rideshare app versus the majority (71.3%) chose approximate for a local news app. Concerningly, the majority also allowed location access to a wallpaper app, and older users were significantly more likely to allow apps precise location access. Preview abstract Large vision-language models (VLMs) still struggle with reliable 3D spatial reasoning, a core capability for embodied and physical AI systems. This limitation arises from their inability to capture fine-grained 3D geometry and spatial relationships. While recent efforts have introduced multi-view geometry transformers into VLMs, they typically fuse only the deep-layer features from vision and geometry encoders, discarding rich hierarchical signals and creating a fundamental bottleneck for spatial understanding. To overcome this, we propose SpatialStack, a general hierarchical fusion framework that progressively aligns vision, geometry, and language representations across the model hierarchy. Moving beyond conventional late-stage vision-geometry fusion, SpatialStack stacks and synchronizes multi-level geometric features with the language backbone, enabling the model to capture both local geometric precision and global contextual semantics. Building upon this framework, we develop VLM-SpatialStack, a model that achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple 3D spatial reasoning benchmarks. Extensive experiments and ablations demonstrate that our multi-level fusion strategy consistently enhances 3D understanding and generalizes robustly across diverse spatial reasoning tasks, establishing SpatialStack as an effective and extensible design paradigm for vision-language-geometry integration in next-generation multimodal physical AI systems. Preview abstract Audio Description ( AD) provides essential access to visual media for blind and low vision ( BLV) audiences. Yet current AD production tools remain largely inaccessible to BLV video creators, who possess valuable expertise but face barriers due to visually- driven interfaces. We present ADCanvas, a multimodal authoring system that supports non- visual control over audio description ( AD) creation. ADCanvas combines conversational interaction with keyboard- based playback control and a plain- text, screen reader– accessible editor to support end- to- end AD authoring and visual question answering ( VQA). Combining screen- reader- friendly controls with a multimodal LLM agent, ADCanvas supports live VQA, script generation, and AD modification. Through a user study with 12 BLV video creators, we find that users adopt the conversational agent as an informational aide and drafting assistant, while maintaining agency through verification and editing. For example, participants saw themselves as curators who received information from the model and filtered it down for their audience. Our findings offer design implications for accessible media tools, including precise editing controls, accessibility support for creative ideation, and configurable rules for human- AI collaboration. Preview abstract We introduce KVCIS (KV-Cache Importance Scoring), a novel approach to KV-cache compression that predicts token importance from intermediate-layer activations before attention is computed. Unlike existing methods (H2O, StreamingLLM, Scissorhands) that make compression decisions based on attention scores computed during generation, KVCIS enables proactive compression at cache insertion time—determining how to store each token before paying the computational cost of attention. We discover a two-level importance structure in decoder-only transformers: the beginning-of-sequence (BOS) token acts as an "attention sink" receiving ~76% of attention, while the remaining ~24% is distributed across content tokens with 10-11× importance spread. A simple linear probe achieves R² = 0.998 overall and R² = 0.68–0.79 for discriminating among content tokens. Extensive validation across 3 model families (Llama, Mistral, Gemma), 8 layer depths, context lengths from 256 to 2048 tokens, and multiple downstream tasks demonstrates: 50% memory reduction with zero degradation on NarrativeQA (F1 = 0.064 matching baseline exactly), while uniform quantization degrades by 7.8% at the same compression ratio. KVCIS consistently achieves 5–8× better quality preservation than uniform quantization across all tested context lengths. The memory savings enable increased batch sizes and longer context support; the probe itself adds minimal overhead (~16KB direction vector, 0.06ms per token). This work extends activation-based probing from safety classification to inference optimization, demonstrating that intermediate-layer activations encode predictive signals about token importance for generation. Preview abstract We introduce ALPS (Activation-based Length Prediction for Scheduling), a method for predicting LLM generation length from prefill activations before any tokens are generated. Unlike existing approaches that require model fine-tuning or complex entropy-weighted pooling, ALPS uses a simple linear probe on the last-token activation at intermediate layers. We discover that generation length is encoded in prefill representations: a ridge regression probe achieves R-squared > 0.85 across three model families. Validation across Llama-3.1-8B, Gemma-2-9B, and Qwen-2.5-7B demonstrates: (1) intermediate layers generally perform well, with some architectural variation; (2) simple last-token extraction outperforms complex pooling strategies; (3) activations improve substantially over surface-feature baselines (24 percentage points over input length plus lexical features). The best models achieve R-squared = 0.943 (Gemma), R-squared = 0.880 (Llama), and R-squared = 0.857 (Qwen) with MAE of 38-80 tokens. All test prompts terminated naturally (100% EOS), eliminating truncation confounds. While our evaluation uses 200 curated prompts—sufficient for demonstrating the phenomenon but requiring broader validation—cross-validation confirms generalization beyond training data. ALPS enables practical applications including budget-constrained inference, request scheduling, and resource allocation. The probe adds negligible overhead (~16KB direction vector, single dot product), making ALPS practical for production deployment. View details
Preview abstract Object-Counting for remote-sensing (RS) imagery is raising increasing research interest due to its crucial role in a wide and diverse set of applications. While several promising methods for RS object-counting have been proposed, existing methods focus on a closed, pre-defined set of object classes. This limitation necessitates costly re-annotation and model re-training to adapt current approaches for counting of novel objects that have not been seen during training, and severely inhibits their application in dynamic, real-world monitoring scenarios. To address this gap, in this work we propose RS-OVC - an adaptation of existing work for Open Vocabulary Counting (OVC) approach from general computer vision to the RS domain. We show that our model is capable of accurate counting of novel object classes, that are unseen during training, based solely on textual and/or visual conditioning. View details

Preview abstract In Extended Reality (XR), complex acoustic environments often overwhelm users, compromising both scene awareness and social engagement due to entangled sound sources. We introduce MoXaRt, a real-time XR system that uses audio-visual cues to separate these sources and enable fine-grained sound interaction. MoXaRt's core is a cascaded architecture that performs coarse, audio-only separation in parallel with visual detection of sources (e.g. faces, instruments). These visual anchors then guide refinement networks to isolate individual sources, separating complex mixes of up to five concurrent sources (e.g. two voices + three instruments) with ca. 2 second processing latency. We validate MoXaRt through a technical evaluation on a new, complex dataset we collected, and a 22-participant user study. Our results demonstrate that MoXaRt significantly improves communication clarity—boosting listening comprehension in noisy conditions by 33.2% (p=0.0058)—and significantly reduces cognitive load (M=7.50 vs. M=3.36, p<0.001), paving the way for more perceptive and socially adept XR experiences. Preview abstract Generative AI capabilities have enabled malicious actors to flood online platforms with "AI slop"—mass-produced, low-quality synthetic media designed to overwhelm traditional integrity systems. These adversarial campaigns often utilize coordinated networks to distribute unique, localized variations of synthetic content, rendering static detection methods ineffective. The signals to detect coordination often have recall gaps. The content is not exactly duplicative to be in the same repetitive video cluster. The abusers however show similar patterns of behavior which need forensics. Manual forensic investigations cannot scale to match the velocity of these generative attacks. To address this, we present SAFE (Scaled Abuse Forensics Examiner), an automated multi-agent architecture designed for the scalable forensics of adversarial synthetic media. The system decomposes the investigation process into specialized agents: a Cluster Understanding Agent specialized in analyzing the relations between channels in a cluster, a Behavior Understanding Agent that identifies inorganic spatiotemporal patterns, and a Content Understanding Agent that utilizes LoRA-adapted Large Language Models (LLMs) and few-shot learning to detect existing policy violations and spirit of the policy violations respectively . A Root Agent synthesizes these multimodal signals to render a final verdict. Early deployment results indicate that SAFE significantly accelerates the identification of novel synthetic threats, reducing forensic investigation time compared to human-in-the-loop workflows. Preview abstract In large-scale distributed enterprises, traditional Knowledge Management (KM) systems face a critical failure mode: static documentation cannot keep pace with evolving operational realities and regional nuances. This "knowledge latency" forces employees out of self-service workflows and into costly support ticketing queues. This paper introduces SENTINEL, a geo-contextual AI framework designed to shift enterprise support from reactive retrieval to proactive interception. The architecture employs a novel dual-engine system integrated into an omni-present interface. The first engine utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) to conduct pre-emptive, historical case-grounded audits of documentation, generating a "Contextual Density" score that identifies friction zones. The second engine is an autonomous Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) agent that surfaces in-situ via a location-intelligent assistant window, resolving queries in real-time. By functioning as a strategic "defensive barrier" at the point of origin, SENTINEL demonstrates how a proactive AI assistant can drive high-fidelity, in-situ case deflection. View details

Preview abstract To balance computational performance with thermal comfort, this study explores a consolidated hotspot architecture at the top center of a tablet. We tested hotspot (39°C, 43°C, 45°C, 47°C) and ambient temperatures (25°C, 35°C) with 60 participants, measuring perception, action likelihood, and expectation. The hotspot was observed away from high contact areas, with 43°C identified as the threshold for significant discomfort. Discomfort increased with portrait mode use and higher device and ambient temperatures, while active use duration influenced acceptability. The findings underscore the importance of thermal mapping and contextual sensing, with direct applications for software throttling thresholds of coated aluminum enclosures. View details

Preview abstract Although many AI applications of interest require specialized multi-modal models, relevant data to train such models is inherently scarce or inaccessible. Filling these gaps with human annotators is prohibitively expensive, error-prone, and time-consuming, leading model builders to increasingly consider synthetic data as a scalable alternative. However, existing synthetic data generation methods often rely on manual prompts, evolutionary algorithms, or extensive seed data from the target distribution — limiting their scalability, explainability, and control. In this paper, we introduce Simula: a novel reasoning-driven framework for data generation and evaluation. It employs a seedless, agentic approach to generate synthetic datasets at scale, allowing users to define desired dataset characteristics through an explainable and controllable process that enables fine-grained resource allocation. We show the efficacy of our approach on a variety of datasets, rigorously testing both intrinsic and downstream properties. Our work (1) offers guidelines for synthetic data mechanism design, (2) provides insights into generating and evaluating synthetic data at scale, and (3) unlocks new opportunities for developing and deploying AI in domains where data scarcity or privacy concerns are paramount. Preview abstract Generative AI assistants typically employ convergent interaction paradigms to resolve ambiguity. While effective for technical tasks, this risks premature convergence in creative domains, constraining output variance. Evaluating a convergent AI probe with expert creatives (N=9) indicates an interactional paradox: structural linearity provides "ignition" utility for early ideation, but misaligns with organic workflows, often inducing "aesthetic sanitization" that standardizes individualized nuance. Prioritizing constructive friction over default agreement, the experts requested active, lateral collaborators. In response, we reframe output convergence as a "full-stack" UI challenge, advocating for Generative frameworks that operationalize the Double Diamond via fluid role-shifting and productive tension. Preview abstract Advanced reasoning typically requires Chain-of-Thought prompting, which is accurate but incurs prohibitive latency and substantial test-time inference costs. The standard alternative, fine-tuning smaller models, often sacrifices interpretability while introducing significant resource and operational overhead. To address these limitations, we introduce Prompt-Level Distillation (PLD). We extract explicit reasoning patterns from a Teacher model and organize them into a structured list of expressive instructions for the Student model's System Prompt. Evaluated on the StereoSet and Contract-NLI datasets using Gemma-3 4B, PLD improved Macro F1 scores from 57\% to 90.0\% and 67\% to 83\% respectively, enabling this compact model to match frontier performance with negligible latency overhead. These expressive instructions render the decision-making process transparent, allowing for full human verification of logic, making this approach ideal for regulated industries such as law, finance, and content moderation, as well as high-volume use cases and edge devices.
