I'M BOOKING MY FLIGHT TO THE USA!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, finally, I get the chance to spend some days there. I'll visit two friends who study in NY and MA for a semester and we'll spend new year's eve together (not sure where, NY, NJ or maybe IN) and hopefully make a trip to Philadelphia and Washington DC and if I have enough money (will work my ass off for that) go to Indiana.

I'll be there from December 27 to January 11 and it's gonna be fun. I found a pretty cheap flight for 428€ ($578..thank god I'm European) and still can fly with Singapore Airlines. They are just amazing. It's a non stop flight from Frankfurt to NYC and I even could book a window seat without paying more. I still don't know how I'll make it to Frankfurt (about 5-6 hours by car) because I have to check in at 6:15am :(  But hey, give me a bucky and I fall asleep.

So, yeah, I'll be there for the first time and already started making a to do list:
go to Bill Clinton's Harlem office
get a Snickers Blizzard at DQ
Madame Tussauds in D.C. to have a Hillary picture and Bill picture
visit Capitol in DC (is it possible to have a tour at the Senate buildings too? Like...the Russell building???)

Can't wait!

Oh, and something funny I found on the senate page. When I looked for visitor information, there was a page with job offerings. There are only a few names, but mainly it says like: "Democratic Senator....." or "Northwestern Democrat....." and one caught my attention. I know it still could be Claire McCaskill, but.....:

"Midwestern Democratic Senator on the Armed Services Committee seeks a Legislative Assistant to handle military and veterans’ issues portfolio. ..."

Rant

My life officially sucks. I had to get up at 8 this morning because of a dentist appointment. When I came back I had about one hour to pack my stuff for Leipzig when my grandma asked me to help her to choose matching scarfs to her sweaters because she'll go on vacation for three days. And yes, my grandma does own like 20 different scarfs and a rainbow closet. When I thought I was done she opened a drawer and it game went on. "What necklace would match best? And what about brooches?" That can be annoying when you have to get ready to leave and don't have time for that.

I did make it in time to catch my train. I didn't have time for breakfast so my mood wasn't the best. I planned to write some more on my story but got lost in another story (Win,Lose, Also Ran) because I just felt like reading it again. Then suddenly my battery was low and I couldn't write it.

I decided to stop by at work to check when I have to be there tomorrow. I told my fellow students I would meet them at the cafeteria for lunch. But I had to go home first because I didn't want to carry my luggage around all the time. Unfortunately my tram was late so I called to tell them I'd be late. They said it's ok, I went home and headed to the cafeteria.

There are three different meals and I didn't like any of them, so I decided to have some soup but they didn't have soup anymore....So I had to pick one of the three meals I didn't like. Then I searched my friends, but they were nowhere to be found. When I tried to call them they didn't answer the phone. Well, great! I wasn't hungry anymore, so I went back to my appartment. And, I should have know, of course...it started raining. It's 3pm now and I should be at my literature class in 15 minutes but I decided to stay at home, in my bed, watch TV and be depressed for one day.

Shopping

I had some time before my European Foreign Policy seminar so I went shopping. I got some T-shirts. Actually it's the same T-shirt and I got it in yellow, orange, pink, green and navy blue. Now I'm closer to my rainbow closet^^ Then I went staight to the next store to buy matching shoes, but I a) had no time left and b) not enough money to buy shoes in all those colors, so I went to Starbucks and then to my seminar.

What was really interesting was this Shirt I saw at H&M. Reminded me of Hillary's Jacket when she was in Baden-Baden 4 weeks ago so I put it on to make a picture with my cell phone (that's why the quality isn't that good).

i know I promised to upload the London pictures and I WILL do it in a few minutes but first I want to tell you what happened during the last days.

There's a program calles OLEC for students from Ohio University in Athens. They come to Leipzig for 10 weeks o learn some German. For one week they live with students and one Wednesday they'll move to an apartment building for students (like dorm rooms or something). Anyway, I have an Ohio student too. Her name is Shana.

I picked her up at the airport on Friday at noon. The first people I saw coming out of the Security check were some really good looking guys, wearing gray suits. It turned out that this is the national soccer team from Liechtenstein. They played (and lost^^) against Germany on Saturday and the game was in Leipzig. I saw the German team earlier that week but only in the distance. Anyway, Shana arrived with them and we went home. She was really tired so she slept most of the time. Later that day we watched Who wants to be a millionaire in German.

On Saturday, there was a breakfast for all host students and Ohio students. After that I showed her the university and library and we met with some other OLEC students and their hosts. Then there was the soccer game (btw...I HATE the word soccer. It's football. Our football is older than yours and waaaayyy cooler so give us back our word. Soccer sounds like....urgh) and some friends came over to watch it and cook lasagne. Heike was there too. She just came back from Indiana and brought me a weather calender from IN and a pin that is shaped like IN and has a Cardinal on it and I love it :)
So after the game we went to the MB, a club where most students go to in Leipzig.

On Sunday we slept in (like...2pm) and I showed her the city and some places where Bill Clinton was last summer *sighs* like Thomas Church and stuff like that. In the evening we watched a German movie called KeinOhrHasen (RabbitWithoutEars) with English subtitle. It's one of my fav movies and EVERY German woman loves it.

Today they had an Orientation Day and I picked her up about one hour ago. Yeah, that's it, I think.

Oh, and soem general information (and the most important one): we agree on US politics. Some of you know what my room looks like, so a Republican or Obama....fangirl wouldn't like my room. But here's what happened the first day when we arrived and Shana saw my room:
Shana: Oh, you like Hillary?
Me: YEEEEES, I do. Whom did you vote for? I mean, at the primaries.
Shana: Urgh, my primary disaster. (then she told me that they totally messed it up in her hometown so she couldn't vote. I don't remember the exact quote)
Me: Oh. So you couldn't vote. But whom would you have voted for?
Shana: Hillary.
Me: Really?
Shana: Yeah. She's amazing. Her speeches, the way she talks, her politics, she's just amazing.
Me (thinking):YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH. A Hillary supporter.
Shana: I voted for Obama at the general election. I don't like hime. But better than McCain. But I don't really like him. I want Hillary as president.

OMG, isn't that awesome. A Hillary supporter. Before she came to Germany I should have asked her. Because she asked me if there's anything she should bring from the US. I didn't want to be like: something Hillary-related like a campaign sign or shirt or ANYTHING because I can't buy it on ebay or anywhere in Germany. But I didn't because I didn't know about her political views....now it's too late. But anyway, it's fun having her here.

I probably should have wanted it more

Yeah, that's what I thought when I received an email from my university this morning. Remember when I said I'm not accepted at one of our partner universities? That's when I still had the chance to study abroad at a MAUI university but today I got a mail saying I won't be allowed to study there either. Well, great. Even the not popular university in the middle of nowhere don't want me.

The only way to study in the US is going to Miami. Sounds great? I don't think so. Party university, no good political science institute and an expansive city. It's too late to apply for a scholarship (which would be senseless anyway if I don't even get a spot at a good university) and my parents wouldn't give me that much money either. So....I'll stay here.

Hey, I'm studying American Studies. Why should I be in the US? Why shouldn't I stay the only one of my friends who has never been there? Why shouldn't I spend more months (actually at least one year) listening to endless talks about food or whatever that everyone loved during her/his stay in the US? And what really pisses me off is that again and again those who already spent a high school year or Au Pair year in the US get the chance to study there again. That's not fair. Only because my parents didn't support me when my teacher said I should spend I year at an American high school, I'll never get the chance to fulfill my dreams.

*sigh* Ok. Enough rant. I'm, just really pissed right now and I'm sick so I'm complaining all the time anyway. But let's focus on the positive. I'll organize Thanksgiving because the other organizers are in the US, I'll be able to apply for an internship at the US consulate (haha, they don't want your grades, they only want to see your interested in the work and know something about politics), I'll be able to volunteer for this years election, I can save some money and try to apply next year even if that means I have to pay it all by myself. So, even if it seems like I'm the big loser I know that's not the end of the world. And besides, I'm not the only one who lost and it looks like I'm in good company.

( Hope^^Collapse )
