Alex Southey
Toronto
Over the last seven years, Vancouver-born but Toronto-based singer-songwriter Alex Southey has risen to local and provincial recognition. In addition to performing throughout the country, from Vancouver to Montreal to Toronto and spots in between, he’s able to bring fresh material with him virtually every time. Southey writes and releases at a considerably fast pace.
Since starting, Southey’s released multiple albums, EPs, and singles, notably 2021's ...And the Country Stirred LP (which earned him numerous weeks in the top 20 of National College Radio in Canada, in addition to plays and an interview on CBC), 2022’s Common Fantasies shoegaze alternative rock EP (featuring the titular “Common Fantasies”, used briefly on an episode of CTV/CW series Sight Unseen), and 2024's ornate, art rock-folk Entertainers Bring May Flowers Collection EP (its lead single, “God’s Green Earth”, received extensive airplay on Canadian-American Sirius XM radio show North Americana), Southey has developed a knack for constructing dreamy, melancholic, yet hummable songs with memorable lyrics.
Southey and his music have received coverage from CBC, SiriusXM, Billboard Canada, Exclaim!, Dominionated, Canadian Beats, NXNE, Wintersong Festival, Tinnitist, The Sound Cafe, CHCH Morning Show, and a slew of aforementioned Canadian and American college and community radio stations.
