[2016/05/16] Patch notes
UPDATED version patch notes
Unless stated otherwise, these patch notes only concern the UPDATED version of the game. Older patch notes relevant to the ORIGINAL version can be found below.

2016/05/16
- Added .NET Framework 3.5 to dependencies. The goal is to try and reduce the number of people experiencing a "HotlineLauncher.exe has stopped working" on first launch, since this problem only happens when .NET Framework 3.5 doesn't work properly.

There have been no changes outside of that, so don't get all hyped up :Owl:

2015/10/09
[Windows only]
- Fixed rendering of impact debris for bullets.

2015/10/06
[Windows only]

Added UPDATED version, with a lot of new features:
- Leaderboards
- Linux support
- Mac Xbox 360 controller support
- Localization for English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese
- Corrected compatibility issues
- Added windowed mode
- Added resolution selection
- Performance improvement on some systems
- Various bug fixes (see beta branch changelog for details)

The game launcher will let you tweak all these settings and choose between the new engine (UPDATED version) and the original GameMaker version for PC and Mac (ORIGINAL version).

Note that saves files from original GameMaker version works with new engine but save files from new engine version will not work with GameMaker version.

Original version patch notes
Patch notes below predate the UPDATED version (see 2013/09/09 update), and thus are only relevant in the context of the ORIGINAL version.

01 – GETTING STUCK BETWEEN FLOORS (IN STAIRS AND ELEVATORS)
For you that have this problem you MUST DO the following! Go to OPTIONS, then ADVANCE and then turn SURFACES to OFF. Now you should be able to enter floors in the game without problems.

CLEAR BLOOD INFO
if this function is turned ON the blood will be removed when it lands. You should try and play the game with this turned OFF first.
If you feel that the game runs slower with SURFACES OFF you can try and switch to ON, to save memory.

02 – GLASS BREAKING BUG (HOT AND HEAVY)
We have limited the amount of sounds that the game can play at once (which was what caused the problem with the game crashing).

Note: Win 8 seems to be more sensitive to this then other platforms, but we think the sound limit we have will be enough, since it worked for those that helped us test this.

03 – SLOWDOWN
It helped our testers to turn SURFACES to OFF and CLEAR BLOOD to ON. That made the game run in normal speed for them, so try that if you have slowdowns.

04 - MISC FIXES
Minor issues like the boiling pot/werewolf bug have been fixes as well.

Gamepad support has been enabled. Make sure you have installed the newest drivers for your xbox controller before using this feature. You'll find them on Microsoft.com, just follow the link below

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows

To disable the gamepad correctly (if you want to go back to mouse and keyboard) you might need to first switch the controller to OFF in the option menu AND restart your computer, otherwise the game might run with a small but constant slowdown until you do so.

Remapping the keys now works with arrowkeys as well.

Most reported bugs have been fixed. A slowdown problem and a bug with people getting stuck in stairs/elevators are still things we are looking into. If you encounter these, try running the game in 1280x768 which is the game's optimal resolution.
.
Note: We have noticed that that the bugs mentioned above have a tendency to accur when playing the game with windows running on a Mac and that should be taken care of with the Mac version of Hotline Miami that will be out soon.

A bonus stage ”Highball” has been added, which will be unlocked when you complete the mainstory.

Additional environmental graphics.

More gore with the Jones mask now has additional graphical effects.

Additional sound effects.

The pot of boiling water has been updated.

More randomly placed weapons.

First and second boss battles slightly modified.

Visual C++ package has been remade - to make it work correctly make sure you uninstall, reinstall (through Steam), let Steam install new driver AND restart the computer

Achivements are now working when you select "YES" to enable Steamworks.

Remapping keys are now available with movement and restart. You access this in the CONTROL section (TITLE MENU)

Game can now run in lower resulutions. That should now take care of the problem some people had getting stuck while entering stairs or elevators.

Masks perks have been fixed and tweaked.

Game saving grade on the wrong stage have been fixed. However, we are not able to move the grade you already unlocked, so to make sure you have A+ on a stage, replay it and kick its ♥♥♥ one more time to make sure the A+ displayed is the correct A+.

Most reported bugs have been taken care of and should not cause more trouble. If they still persist or you encounter any new ones please report them here on the forum or at support@devolverdigital.com.

Hope this patch works as it should and that you can now enjoy playing the game as it was meant to be played!

Controller WILL work in the next update. Sorry for the delay, we had to make sure everything works as it should and will test it a bit further.

Still working on Steam overlay which is disabled right now. Conflict between the game resolution and the overlay.

A few users are experiencing issues getting the game to load - many have had success by stopping the printer pooling service and/or updating .NET Framework.
