I have had this issue in the past. What has happened is that somehow you saved your game over the file for the custom world. (I have no idea how you do it by the way, I did it once and still don't know)

I fixed it by deleting the specific custom world folder that was overwritten and then validated my game files. You can find the custom world folders in your SE install directory, just right click the game on steam and click browse local files, and then navigate to this folder:
SpaceEngineers/Content/CustomWorlds

EDIT: I confused scenario for custom world, it's the same process though

I wish I ran into you before. I had to do a fresh install of my game to fix that issue when it happened to me!

iwhen you go to files you need to delete the file thats says "THUMB" bc thats the thumbnail but it has game files within it so you delete the thumbnail if there is a diff one and it puts you in a base you dont want to be in

Hi, do you play with Mods and or Plugins ?

Asking because I saw players reporting this problem and I still don't know how it happens, and they had to do a fresh installation of the game following the Safe Steps in the pinned green message in troubleshooting sibforum to fix.

Safe steps
Try fresh install of the game IF still not working :

1 - Backup Saves and Blueprints, copy/paste to USB storage key or else.
Saves and Blueprints are here :
Hit the Windows key + R and type in : %appdata%\SpaceEngineers
Goes to the SpaceEngineers folder
C: users / your username / appdata / roaming / spaceengineers

2 - Uninstall the game with Steam.
3 - Delete all remaining SE folders/files in the Steam folder.
4 - Delete all remaining SE folders/files in the appdata SE on your C: Drive.
5 - Restart PC.
6 - Install Space Engineers game.

No, delete the entire folder. Liek you said, the thumb file is just for the thumbnail. If you want to restore a custom wrold to it's default setting, delete the ENTIRE folder for that specific custom world, and then validate your files.

For example, the problem heere is the custom world "Star System", so navigate to "...SpaceEngineers/Content/CustomWorlds" and then delete the entire folder for "Star System", and then validate your files.

Like I said in my first post, I have had this problem before and I fixed it this way. Deleting just one or two files will probably not work, especially if you're just deleting the thumbnail.

Hey, Dan, you can fix this problem doing the steps I have outlined without the need of a fresh install. I also do not know how this bug occurred, it happened once to me just by saving my game, and hasn't happened since.

It's a strange bug, I play since 2013 and never happenned to me and I think it happens when modifying the game files with specific Mods or Plugins.

Perhaps? However, OP did mention in their third post that no mods were involved. I have just tried to reproduce the bug, but I can't. Like I said, it's only happened to me once. All I did was save the game the normal way, and then when I quit out to the main menu, it instead took me to the new game menu, which is where I noticed my Star System custom world was overwritten. I'll keep trying different ways of reproducing the bug, if I find anything out I'll let you know here and also go to the support portal
Also, I've been around since the Alpha days too, before oxygen, survival and wheels were even a thing lol. And the first time this bug happened to me was about a month ago, and hasn't happened since. It seems to be quite a rare bug, although three people experiencing it within a few months is a strange coincidence.

It may be by loading a workshop world for testing where that world is modified by Mods, or a script maybe ?

Yes, share if you find :selike:

I have just managed to reproduce it. I loaded up a default Star System with no mods in survival mode. After loading in, I respawned in my space suit, saved the game, and quit. I had no game file to load, but it did overwrite the custom world. I'm currently validating my game files again (because I was an idiot and didn't back-up my custom worlds even though I was trying to reproduce the bug) so I can try it again and get more information for you.

But, I have managed to reproduce it, so there is something that we're doing to cause it and it's not just random.

Ok, correct me if I am wrong, the STR are :

1 - Create a new Star System world on default settings survival mode.

2 - Load it and select space suit from the respawn screen.

3 - Save, exit and close the game.

4 - Open the game again and notice a new Custom world is added in "New" + "Custom world"
