Can't upload to Workshop - Workaround(s)
Hi SE community!

Here are the important to know when you have problems uploading your creations on the Workshop.

Things you can try :

1 - Make sure the item thumbnail is lower than 1 MB because the upload will fail.

2 - Try by deleting the thumbnail :

Saves and Blueprints are here :
Hit the Windows key + R and type in : %appdata%\SpaceEngineers
Goes to the SpaceEngineers folder
C: users / your username / appdata / roaming / spaceengineers

World saves goes here :

C:\Users\ (your username) \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\ (Your Steam ID)

Blueprints goes here :

C:\Users\ (your username) \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints\local

+ > Find your item, open the folder, delete the thumbnail (thumb.) and go in-game to publish your item.

You may try to add a new thumbnail later by updating the item, it is very easy to update Workshop items cause we just have to redo the exact same thing we did the first time publishing.
_____________
You may use Rox's trick on how to change thumbnail with cmd from the old website, the page still load :
https://forum.keenswh.com/threads/workshop-thumbnail-for-ingamescripts-broken.7402745/#post-1287105887
_____________

:clang: In-game Steam cloud :

3- Make sure the in-game Steam cloud stays disabled from the game options because that creates "Cloud Blueprints" and we can't edit/publish those.
C:\Users\ (your username) \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints\cloud

> Create your Blueprints (Ctrl+B) with the in-game cloud OFF to create LOCAL Blueprints because only the Local ones can be edited and published on the Workshop.

IMPORTANT
Use the Workshop to save your creations because that is the *"Default Steam cloud" where we can save without limits and you will be able to load all from any PCs where you login with your Steam account.
(just set your WS item Hidden for Perso use if you don't want to share public)

The in-game Steam cloud give limit problems where a lot reported so better keep in-game Steam cloud OFF as it is on default to avoid messing with the cloud folder in appdata SE.

In-game Steam cloud is made to auto-transfer Cloud Blueprints to your second PC having the same Steam account and not made to save at all.

Use the Workshop as Backup system because :
-> No limits over there.
-> Can update our items and the Workshop will keep all versions we can revert back.
-> You will never lose your Workshop item.
-> And be able to load all from any PC where you login with your Steam account.

* Your Workshop is like the "Default Steam Cloud" where you can save without limits and never lose any of your creations, it's a "Cloud" that comes with Steam all setup on default settings and you will not have to enable any cloud options to use it.
= Why I call it the "Default Steam Cloud".

:fix: You enabled the in-game Steam cloud and want to fix?

To do before disabling the in-game Steam cloud :

1 - You will have to paste all your "Cloud Blueprints" in a creative world.

2 - Go disable the in-game Steam cloud in game options.

3 - Load the creative world where you pasted all your "Cloud Blueprints" and redo LOCAL Blueprints this time.

got 200 SE files in here?
that will stop you from being able to publish Workshop items with thumbnail, so removing your Cloud Blueprints in appdata SE Blueprint folder should help.

PS

How to publish a World save :
1 - Select your save.

2 - Click the "Publish" button on the left.

3 - Choose a proper Tag, select Steam Upload and click the OK button.

4 - Your world will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

_______

How to publish a Blueprint :
1 - Open the Blueprints menu F10 in-game.

2 - Select your Blueprint in the list.

3 - Click the "Publish" button.

4 - Choose a proper Tag, select Steam Upload and click the OK button.

5 - Your Blueprint will be uploaded to Steam Workshop.

________

How to update a Workshop item
Blueprint as example :

-> Aim at the new updated creation, that should have the same grid name.
-> Hit Ctrl+C to copy.
-> Open the Blueprints window F10.

-> Select the Original Local Blueprint so the Local one you published the very first time (not the Workshop one)

-> Click the "Replace" button.
Doing so will update the Local Blueprint so change it for the new version.

-> and republish that Local updated Blueprint.
=
That is how we update existing Workshop item

+
Why it is important to keep and backup the original Local Blueprint, to be able to update the Workshop Item.

In other words :
-> We have to redo the exact same thing we did the very first time publishing to update the existing Workshop item.

Having too many blueprints saved into your cloud can also cause this issue.
When I couldn't upload to workshop I noticed I also can't save any more blueprints into my cloud either, even though it wasn't full yet.
Clearing out my cloud solved the problem with the workshop too.

I found out afterwards that you're not really supposed to use the cloud to just save blueprints for yourself, upload them into the workshop and set them to private if you want to do that.

I will add :

The in-game Steam cloud is not made to save but made for players having 2 PCs with the same Steam account to transfer their new creations to their second PC.

And gave problems to the member having only one PC, well a lot reported problems using so better keep it OFF as it is on default.

+

Use the Workshop to save your creations
-> because that is the Steam cloud where we can > Save < and you will be able to load all from any PCs where you login with your Steam account.
Hi
I have problems with updating 2 blueprints that I have recently published to workshop.
I had changed PC some time ago, so I had all my blueprints saved to cloud in the moment of creating those new blueprints.

"Create new blueprint from clipboard"- they were created as cloud blueprint, then I published them to the steam workshop.

later I read this guide to keep cloud blueprint off, so i turned in off, in result deleting cloud blueprints
==========
in f10 menu, for those new blueprints, "Replace from clipboard" button was always greyed out. Well, it is greyed out for all my older entries, that were published from local blueprints.

Is there anything I can do to update those workshop entries, or I will have to delete them and publish them again by publishing the local blueprints?
==========
If I create local bluepint, publish it to steam workshop, and publish again the same local bp, all is ok: workshop entry get updated, not duplicated.

How to "fake" this behaviour when the original local/cloud blueprint no longer exist? any text edit of local blueprint id to allow matching old with new bp?
=========
THANKS !!! The guide linked works perfectly

Important to know is that cloud Blueprints are not saved so it is a bad move to use thinking they will be saved.

+

I never modify the files so I really don't know how to use a workshop item and make it Local, but I remember one sharing a solution so I will go use the forums search tool to find.

The best would have been to create a new forum discussion so all Veteran players can help you and not just me ;)

Be back later if I find the solution and by that time I recommend to create a new forum discussion titled "How to update my Workshop items if I lost the Local Blueprint.

Better keep that in-game cloud OFF and use the Workshop to backup because that is where we can save our creations and be able to load from any PCs we login with our Steam account.
Thank you for this. How do I fix missing subgrids? Thanks.

Tis ok, I should have used CTRL+B instead of CTRL+SHIFT+B
my publish button simply wont work, i have the cloud thing turned off, the image is below 1mb, button will not open the workshop upload.

Hi, if nothing works after doing all in, I recommend to try the other pinned important shared by a SE Modder in the Geberal Discussions forum, here :
