No audio, audio sliders stuck at 0%
Forever topic is forever; as in, this is apparently known issue now and again.

Anyway, i reinstalled this game after 2 year break and noticed that audio is not working. audio during intro video is audible, but not ingame sounds or music.
Audio sliders get stuck at 0% if i try change them ingame. changing the values on config file do stick till next restart of the game; but still audiovolume seem to be 0, regardless of settings visible to me. if i change them, game sets them to 0% again after closing the settings menu ingame.

what ive done to try remedy this:
1. verify installation
2. uninstall and reinstall
3. deleded config file
4. removed modify permission to config file, with default non-0 audio values in.
5. removed X3DAudio1_7 from system32 and wow and reinstalled DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) which contains said files back.
6. located 244850 (space engineer steam product id) appmanifest acf file and deleted it.
7. located href local registery key of game manifest from registery; registery folder valve / 224850 was already empty.

if anyone has other ideas how to fix this, please spam :)

It guided me to dig little deeper and i found that space engineers had moved to use xaudio 2.9 exclusively, and i found this out at space engineer's launching log:
Thread: 1 -> Exception during loading audio engine. Game continues, but without sound. Details: System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to find XAudio2 dlls for requested versions [Version29], not installed on this machine
(thank a thousand for making startup logs, i love you!)
My system was still running xaudio 2.7
this is the reason why space engineers locked out audio to 0%.

for whatever reason, my system doesnt like to install this new xaudio 2.9 and gives no reasons why. sfc.exe says windows is working fine

using offline installer for DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010), does not contain this package.

After fiddling around and power of google, i found a solution:

To get required package for missing file(s) (xaudio 2.9, xaudio version 29, or alternatively xaudio2_9)
for non-windows 10/11 systems, i had to go microsoft supported site nuget to find redistributable for developers which contained missing files here: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/

after downloading it, and opening the nupkg file (its actually just a zip file, rename if nessessary),
then finding xaudio2_9redist.dll" located in "build\native\release\bin\x64\ and copying that to windows system32 and wowsys as "XAudio2_9.dll.

after that, space engineers on my pc has sound again!

Hi, that happens to a few players and the only fix was shared by one of them that I have added to the pinned important in Troubleshooting sub forum.

Oh! I did not noticed it you were using Windows 7, I would have shared similar discussions knowing but glad you found it.

I had to upgrade son's PC to Windows 10 because he was starting to have problems with Steam.
