Top 5 Games I've Played The Most (Updated and Revised for 2025)
It's been a year or two since I wrote this and as time passes, opinions change. I've found new games, put down old ones, and put varying amounts of time into all of them. It's high time this list got updated.

This is a top 5 of my most played games. Pretty self explanatory. I'll also give a bit of a blurb about the game.

The only rule here is no idle/clicker games because there's not a lot to say about them and I often leave them open in the background while doing something else, so more than half of their hours are AFK hours.

#1: Deep Rock Galactic | 1181 Hours (and counting!)
Deep Rock Galactic is a 1-4 player co-op horde shooter/miner hybrid. Teams drop into missions to fight bugs and mine resources to meet their quota before racing to extraction. High amounts of customization and random cave generation mean endless gameplay opportunities.
DRG is a blast to play and has evolved greatly over its early access period and continues to see some minor development even years afterward. The pace of new content being released has slowed dramatically as the studio justifiably pursues other projects, but I don't see myself ever permanently putting the game down. It's the kind of thing that - even after an ungodly amount of time - still offers a half-hour of fun when I feel like playing a horde shooter.

As of now, Deep Rock Galactic beats out four of the six major idle/incremental games I play on this Steam account in terms of hours, and these aren't slouches of games either; NGU Idle, Realm Grinder, Clicker Heroes, and even Antimatter dimensions - which I've played through to content completion twice - fall woefully short of matching DRG's gameplay hours. The current frontrunner is NGU Idle, which is still over 100 hours short of meeting the mark. The only two that beat out DRG are Idle Wizrd and Crusaders of the Lost Idols, both of which I've left open and unattended for days at a time, so does that really count?

#2: Terraria | 375 Hours
Terraria is a 2d sandbox survival game with an emphasis on exploring and combat. The mod support did wonders for this game, as did the continued updates. I put another 100-ish hours into this since the first iteration of this list, moving this up from a narrow #5 to a clear #2. That said, I think I've just about wrapped up my time with this game, and no amount of mods or additional content will recapture my passion. I've just done everything there is to do - not that I didn't get far more than my money's worth.

#3: Wildermyth | 322 Hours (and counting!)
Wildermyth is a papercraft party-management tactical RPG with a focus on procedural storytelling and overarching narratives. It gives a sort of "D&D at home" vibe, but the combat mechanics are both simpler and more interesting. Each hero grows and evolves over the course of a campaign, gaining new abilities and equipment and sometimes transformations that can augment their power in a variety of ways.

Most of the time I put into this over the years has been in the more recent Omenroad DLC, which adds a more combat-focused mode for those who prefer that. It offers a lot of challenges to overcome, and new and versatile ways to build your perfect hero, which I very much enjoy doing. Despite churning through armies of characters there's still a few handfuls that I've grown attached to, be it for their appearance or their abilities. I enjoyed creating each and every one, and I enjoy playing them to this day.

#4: Dungeons and Dragons Online | 311 Hours
I'll be honest here; I didn't put an extra second into this game since the last version of this list. It just had that much of a head start. Nostalgia has absolutely not rose-tinted this one for me; the more I look back at it, the more I realize what a poorly designed mess the game was. Hit detection on ranged weapons sucked, puzzle design sucked (with some quests being literally impossible without a second party member despite the game being playable solo), class variety and abilities leave much to be desired, the combat is pretty dull, and there are so many paywalls that it's almost impossible to find people who can even do the same content you're doing, at the level you want to do it at.

I've also heard that apparently I missed some big server purge that reset my entire account back to zero - including all the $100+ of microtransactions I spent... so... I'm never going back to this.

#5: Don't Starve Together | 262 Hours
This is another one I didn't put another second into. Even with the modding community and everything else, I'm just so exhausted of the core gameplay loop that it can't be revitalized. It's a good, unforgiving survival crafting game, but I've just played it to the point where I can't justify playing it anymore.
