California Gov. Gavin Newsom sparked fierce outrage for soliciting donations to victims of the deadly Los Angeles wildfires via his super PAC, which pushed users to add their personal information to a Democratic fundraising site.

Newsom, 57, posted a link on X to californiafirefacts.com, a website set up by his campaign committee, in response to what he claimed was misinformation on the wildfires. 

But the site urges users to give money to the California Fire Foundation and links them to a module from ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s fundraising platform. The ActBlue donation box says the money is being raised by Campaign for Democracy, Newsom’s super PAC.

🥴Michael Cohen pleas for Biden presidential pardon: 'I'm somebody's son also'

"Yeah, I put in the application for a presidential pardon because I believe that Joe Biden has the same responsibility to me that he had to his own son," Cohen said. "And I would expect that the same exact pardon that he gave his son has to go to me and to anybody else that’s on that enemies list, whether they want it or not, because I assure you, solitary confinement, where I did 51 days, sucks."

MSNBC host Symone Sanders agreed with Cohen’s concern over being on Trump’s "enemies list" but disagreed with invoking Hunter Biden for his case. 

"I mean, Hunter Biden is the president’s last surviving son," Sanders said. 

"I’m somebody’s son also, by the way," Cohen responded.

"Agreed. You are somebody’s son," Sanders said. "But I mean, to be very clear, you’re not the president’s son. And he pardoned Hunter primarily because that is his son, I think."

Death toll in Los Angeles fires rises to 24

There have been at least 24 fire-related deaths in the Palisades and Eaton Fires, according to the latest tally from the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner.

The number of fatalities is expected to rise as officials continue to battle the dual fires.

According to the medical examiner, there have been 16 confirmed deaths linked to the Eaton Fire and eight fatalities due to the Palisades Fire.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and President-elect Trump met on Saturday and discussed the "mutual importance" of a U.S.-Canadian energy relationship and the hundreds of thousands of American jobs supported through Albertan exports.

"Over the last 24 hours I had the opportunity to meet President [Trump] at Mar-a-Lago last night and at his golf club this morning," Smith wrote in a post on X. "We had a friendly and constructive conversation during which I emphasized the mutual importance of the U.S. - Canadian energy relationship, and specifically, how hundreds of thousands of American jobs are supported by energy exports from Alberta."

She continued, saying she had similar discussions with "several key allies" of Trump’s incoming administration in which she became encouraged to hear about their support for "a strong energy and security relationship with Canada."

The homeless arson suspect who was taken into custody near one of the Los Angeles wildfires is an illegal immigrant, it was revealed Sunday night.

The suspect, who has since been identified as Mexican national Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, was caught on video walking with a yellow blowtorch before he was confronted by residents in Calabasas, west of Beverly Hills.

One witness later recounted that the suspect was 'very focused on moving forward with the blow torch', telling FOX 11 the suspect said: 'I can't stop. I can't stop. I'm not putting this down. I'm doing this.'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been leaning toward replacing Sen. Marco Rubio with state Attorney General Ashley Moody, according to people familiar with the matter, a move that could also pave the way for DeSantis’s chief of staff to become Florida’s top law enforcement officer.

DeSantis has not made a decision, according to a senior Florida government official and two other people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. One of the people said that Moody has also been eyeing the governor’s office, that DeSantis has encouraged her and that other possible picks include former Florida House speaker Jose Oliva.

But Moody is considered the favorite for the Senate in GOP circles as DeSantis’s need to choose approaches. Rubio is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, and DeSantis expects to name a replacement this month. “We’ll have somebody teed up ready to go when the new administration begins,” he said last week at a news conference with Trump and other Republican governors.

😒 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is reportedly attempting to kill the Laken Riley Act, a bill that requires the DHS to take illegal aliens who have been charged, arrested, or convicted for crimes such as theft, larceny, burglary or shoplifting into custody.

Pablo Manriquez, a news reporter, wrote in a post on X that “sources at DHS” were informing him that the cost of the Laken Riley Act was estimated to be between $20-$30 billion.

Manriquez added that the DHS sources had cited “a $7 billion figure just for beds BEFORE the mandate’s costs on local law enforcement.”
