Donald Trump just said he would not endorse a candidate for Speaker, then endorsed Mike Johnson in the next breath, essentially guaranteeing that either the RINOs would rebel once again, or that the RINOs would have to finally get in line and vote for a Trump endorsed MAGA Speaker.

I expect the RINOs to once again hold out.

But there is such an interesting dynamic here. Mike Johnson is a sort of, “junior rep.” He doesn’t have a lot of history or landmark deals for RINOs to object to. They will look more petty in this round if they hold out.

On the other hand, if they elect Johnson as Speaker then they will have been forced to finally admit that Trump is the leader of the party and that the MAGA faction of the Republican Party is now the party itself.

This Speaker soap opera has been so important in so many ways that I can’t help but go back to the McCarthy agreement with the Freedom Caucus as theater. I think Gaetz was meant to pull the pin on McCarthy from the word go. I think McCarthy knew.
