House of Secrets
WHO: Umbridge, Pyrite, and the Other Cho
WHERE: Department of Mysteries
WHEN: 'round Noon.
WHAT: A long delayed autopsy. (part 2 of "Let's Clean Up The Loose Ends, Shall We?")
Umbridge waddled along the hall of the Department of Mysteries. Pyrite walked at her side, doing his best not to pass her. As they stepped into the Atrium they were met by three Unspeakables.
"Britain Prevails, Minister." the lead Unspeakable gave her a curt bow and Umbridge smiled.
"Britain Prevails, Mr. Cooper." She said in her usual nail-on-chalkboard voice. Pyrite added a curt nod to the other two gentlemen.
"You, ah, know Croaker and Stevens of course, Minister. Two of our best."
She hemmed a bit as if to suggest that possibly they may not be and Cooper turned and led her to a door and opened it, ushering them into a corridor.
"How is the prisoner?" Umbridge asked.
"Ummm... ahh... He's all right... Intact... Highly delusional, of course. We... We've had some complaints... We're not really equiped for, for detainment, Minister..."
"He's a mystery, isn't he?" said Pyrite with a smirk.
"Err.. well.. yes, yes he is... But... Some of the Unspeakables question our new role..."
"Give me their names and we'll have them tranferred to the Anti-Dark Creatures Squad, see how much the enjo. We expect total obedience from our Department of Secrets."
"Ah, Department of Mysteries, Minister." Cooper corrected.
"Martin, Martin, Martin... I'm paying you to keep Secrets, solving Mysteries is purely incidental." She smiled to herself quite amused and he was silent as he led Pyrite and Umbridge into a side room, through witch they could see, via two-glass into a cell. Inside the padded, improvised cell was a boy who looked about 16. He was sitting in a plain chair, holding the stump of his right arm in his hand. He rocked slightly in his chair. He was unkempt and stubbly and the stump looked angry and red.
"We... We've kept the arm from going gangrenous.. but as you requested, he haven't healed it or regrown his hand..."
"Has he said anything of interest?" inquired Umbridge.
"We think he's delusional, either from shock or infection... Something about an "Eleven Day Empire" or the "King of the Twentieth Century"... the "Angel of Death" figures promenantly in his rantings... Lots of chess. Oh yes and if he allow him, he'll go on at length about the 5th of November."
"Guy Fawkes Day." said Umbridge.
"Quite. Well, it's either that or stream of conciousness drivel on photography. We've got the boys in Prophecy working on it... Nothing's coming up yet... and a few History boffins doing the research... We've got nothing."
"I told you you were better at keeping secrets than solving mysteries...."
"yes... well... Next on our tour..." And Cooper led them out of the room and back into the hall. Croaker and Stevens rejoined them and flanked them as the group proceeded down towards the next room.
Cooper had the distinct look of someone who might be losing his job soon.
He led them past the makeshift cells and down another corridor and then down a short flight of steps
to a large metal door with a sign on it that said "Morgue".
"We've had the Doctors in... All the best... Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, both Bakers, Davison, McCoy, McGann, and Eccleston." Umbridge nodded along, she'd heard these names before. "No of them have been able to autopsy the victim..." He tapped his wand on a metal plate by the door and there was a deep resonating thunk and the door slid open. The group entered and saw that the tray with the corpse in it was already open and there was a woman standing over it, examining it. The three Unspeakable whipped their wands out.
"Freeze!" Stevens shouted. But it was already too late, Pyrite vaulted past them and lept across the room with a snarl.
