Mayor of Takhian Tia Opens Elderly Empowerment Project to Enhance Quality of Life in Preparation for an Aging Society

TAKHIAN TIA, June 8th, 2026 – Mr. Mitchai Phakphongtham, Mayor of Tambon Takhian Tia, presided over the opening ceremony of the “2026 Training and Study Visit Project for Elderly Empowerment,” an initiative designed at promoting and improving the quality of life for senior citizens so they can live with dignity, value, and happiness.

The event was held at the Tambon Takhian Tia Municipal Office. Mr. Wachira Suchoe, Deputy Mayor, delivered a report on the project’s objectives. The ceremony was attended by municipal executives, municipal council members, heads of government agencies, and officials from the Public Health and Environment Division.

Following the opening, Mr. Songwut Phakphongtham, President of the Tambon Takhian Tia Municipal Council, greeted the participating seniors, offered words of encouragement, and expressed concern for their health and overall well-being in the community.

The project includes comprehensive training to develop the potential of elderly participants across physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions. It also features study visits and activities designed to prepare seniors for a high-quality life in an aging society.

Thailand has now entered a “complete aging society,” with more than 20 percent of the population aged 60 and above. Many elderly individuals face challenges including health issues, physical decline, stress, loneliness, and loss of social roles, which can lead to long-term dependency.

In response, the Public Health and Environment Division of Tambon Takhian Tia Municipality organized the project to equip seniors with knowledge and skills for self-care, provide opportunities for study visits, experience-sharing, and group activities, while building morale, fostering good relationships, and strengthening networks among the elderly.

Mayor Mitchai Phakphongtham stated the importance of the initiative, stating: “Elderly people are valuable members of our society, rich in experience and wisdom that can be passed on to younger generations. Promoting activities that develop their potential in physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects is a key approach to slowing age-related decline. This helps seniors live with dignity, happiness, and sustained quality of life in the years ahead.”
