Phuket Struggles with Floods

Phuket –

Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom confirmed that the province is closely monitoring weather conditions and has issued warnings for residents to remain alert to thunderstorms and heavy rain expected between July 1–3. The downpours are linked to the southwest monsoon currently sweeping across the Andaman Sea, bringing prolonged rainfall to the region.

Authorities have activated Phuket’s disaster prevention and mitigation plan to address risks from flooding, stagnant water, strong waves, and potential landslides. District chiefs and local administrative organizations have been instructed to:

  • Remove obstructions from waterways
  • Accelerate drainage in flood-prone zones
  • Ensure traffic routes remain passable and safe

The governor explained that manpower, machinery, and equipment are on standby. If any district encounters severe flooding or urgent needs, provincial resources will be deployed immediately to provide assistance and minimize disruption for residents.

Phuket’s proactive measures are to safeguard communities during this monsoon period, as officials work to reduce the impact of extreme weather on daily life and public safety.
