Russian Arrested at Phuket Airport for Attempting to Smuggle 17 KG of Cannabis

Phuket –

Phuket authorities have arrested a 30‑year‑old Russian man after discovering a large quantity of cannabis products hidden in his luggage at Phuket International Airport.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on July 8, customs officers led by Mr. Rawin Kanakakorn, together with an arresting team, inspected two blue rolling suitcases belonging to the suspect, identified only as Sergey. The bags weighed a combined 8 kilograms.

Upon inspection, officers found 35 vacuum‑sealed packages of cannabis flowers weighing 11.4 kilograms (including packaging) and 12 packages of cannabis resin weighing 6.2 kilograms. The contraband was concealed inside the suitcases, which were seized as evidence.

During questioning, the suspect admitted ownership of the luggage and its contents. He was charged with attempting to smuggle goods out of the Kingdom without passing through customs procedures. He was then handed over, along with the evidence, to investigators at Sakhu Police Station for legal proceedings.
