Outline from May Trust Birth meeting

I'm going to post our meeting topics here to share with other leaders, and hopefully spark some interesting dialogue...I'm planning to share our past meeting topics as well, when I have a minute :P

Psychological effects of amniocentisis
Women often have a uncertain attitude that they must take toward their pregnancies until the test results are in (may affect decision to continue pregnancy)
The longer it takes for a woman to fully accept her pregnancy can have a definite effect on her relationship with the baby and her ability to psychologically prepare herself for birth and motherhood.

Ways acceptance/bonding can be delayed:
Submitting to tests whether keeping the baby or not will be determined by results
Frequent doctor visits/relying on someone else to tell you everything is "ok" - not trusting your body to grow a baby properly leads to not trusting birth.
Not feeling baby is *real* until seeing hearing heartbeat/ultrasound/feeling movement
What effect does dependence on our OB/midwife for a reassuring statement of fetal health have on our trust about upcoming birth?

If you are going to go to a provider for birth services only, they will not know the "whole woman". If you will have a provider for your pregnancy and birth, it is better to get to know them before you are in the emotionally vulnerable state of pregnancy. The provider should be seen regularly to build a relationship and allow them to asses your non-pregnant health.
How can women avoid delayed bonding?
How can women increase their trust in their body’s ability?
What kinds of things does an OB/midwife do during routine visits?
Many of these things should be done preconception. If provider is only getting this info from you when pregnant, it can complicate things. Many health concers should be addressed preconception.

Are these things you could do yourself?

Would you want to? Why or why not?
Getting/being in touch with your body when not pregnant/pregnant/post partum leads to Birth Trust.
