September 22, 1942: Force landed B-17E "Frank Buck" 41-2659 takes off from an improvised runway at Hood Point in southern New Guinea. A week prior, the bomber landed wheels down low on fuel. We went the exact spot for then and now photos! pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/b-17/… #PNG #ThenAndNow

Assigned to the 19th Bombardment Group (19th BG) and flew bombing missions over New Guinea and on July 27, 1943 scrapped at Mareeba Airfield.
