Relocation
We need to keep this community moving, so I guess I will do my part and
cry my cry and see if anyone has any advice for me... ;)
To make a long story short, my SO (David), my daughter (Jayd'n) and I
are planning on moving about 3 1/2 hours away from where we are living
now.
Washington state law says that relocation paperwork must be filed 60
days prior to the intended relocation, with 30 days for the other party
to contest the relocation.
Kevin (Jayd'n's biological father) initially agreed that he would allow
us to move without any problem, but recently he has changed his mind (I
won't go into everything behind his change of mind). He still has until
Friday to file contesting our relocation, and IF he manages to get his papers filed in time, I am curious as to what is going to happen.
I am moving down there because I am unable to get financial aid at the
local community college (another long story) and I will be getting it
at the community college down there. I will not have to work
while I am going to school, because David's job will be good enough to
support both of us. David's dad and stepmom live down there, so
we will have family in the area to rely in if anything happens...
On the other hand, Kevin is 22 years old, still living at home with his
mother, working with a lawn-mowing company, not intending on going to
school next fall (he has gone to school in the past, but does not yet
have a degree of any sort). In addition to all of this, he barely
gets his child support paid on time (they have to take it out of his
checks) and yet he still finds the money to buy a brand new truck, a
brand new motorcycle, a brand new boat, 3 "junk" cars to fix up (80's
Camaros)...he owns 2 trucks, an suv, the motorcycle, the boat (if he
doesn't have it yet he is getting it before the end of next month), the
cars, at least 3 4-wheelers, and 2 or 3 dirtbikes.
In addition to all of this, our parenting plan is staying almost the
same. The only thing that is changing is that I specified exact
days and times of visitation (our last one didn't have times, so he was
a dick a couple of times and brought her home at 10 at night, when it
was formerly understood that she was to be home no later than 5), I
made the Christmas holiday the same every year (rather than alternating
Christmas Day and Christmas Eve, I made it so that he gets her for a
certain number of days up until Christmas Eve no later than 10 and I
get her for at least that same number of days after Christmas Eve until
regular visitation starts up again. Transportation in the
proposed plan is still split equally between us, which means that he
will be responsible for half of all the driving for the visitations.
Has anyone been in this situation before? I don't think I have
anything to worry about (i.e. the judge not letting me go), but it
would be great to hear other people's stories about this kind of
situation...some reassurances...
Thanks...(and sorry this was so long...)
