I Thought I'd Contribute...
I have been working a Paranormal Investigating group website, which in my own site, and have challenged myself relentlessly by developing it using nothing but CSS for the layout.
Haunted Studies
The CSS layout of the page is a simple single column design with several nested DIV inside. Getting the code to work in all the various browswers was a huge challenge since most of my work was done at work on a computer that is only permitted to have IE. A lot of the inspiration and code ideas came from Practical Web Design Magazine, which if you haven't subscribed to this I would HIGHLY recommend it.
Afterwards I started to work on the drop down menu, which I really wanted it to be a drop down and not a linear nav menu only. I started out using JS, which work in all the browsers. So, I started with the first version of the drop down menu. This was just ugly. I couldn't find the hack to make the parent list item to say highlighted while someone rolled down the menu and it was using JS. So, I moved on to version two, which is the website above. It didn't only provide a JS free drop-down, but allowed for the drop down menu items to have subgroups. Thankfully, I used code from SEO Consultants. I still have to tweak some of the CSS, but for the most part I have it down. There is just a quirky height issue.
However, the problem is with Opera. Opera doesn't like the code for the CSS navigation, and so I am going to resort to a second nav menu in the side bar on the left once users go beyond the parent page. Unless someone knows a fix, because I am still not all the way up to par with Cross capitable browser CSS.
Does Cross browser compatiability make anyone else have an aneurysm?
