A REALLY SUPER CD WITH GREAT TRACKS AND MUSIC ALONG WITH A FAVOURITE TRACK [THEME ONE FROM BBC RADIO YEARS AGO ] A TRULY NICE CD AND PRESENTABLE COVER .

Superb set of 4 discs and at £20 a absolute bargain. Beware however that each of the individual discs sells on amazon arrount £15 each making individual purchase much more expensive. Get the complete set sit back and enjoy - these are deservedly reviewers recommended discs.

I really enjoyed this 4 CD package as it transports you back in time to.....a less stressful era (without the Covid 19 threat!) It is ideal background music to listen to, so relaxing, especially with a nice tea or coffee by your side! (or something a little stronger perhaps!) The only thing that prevented me giving it a 5 star rating, was that I felt the last (no 4) disc did not have the same appeal; almost as if they had run out of favourite choices to fill it up.....but that's just my opinion, you may disagree of course. With that said, the first three discs are, in themselves, well worth the money. I've no regrets about buying this. I hope you find my review helpful.

Have recently purchased this cd, and was more than pleased with the excellent presentation, quality, and crisp clear sound recording

of all tracks. My three favourite tracks out of this compilation are Barwick Green- theme tune for Radio 4's The Archers, March- theme tune for the 60's BBC tv series Dr. Finlay's Casebook, and The Grasshopper's Dance. I first bought British Light Music Classics(Volume 1) back in 1996, when I used to shop regularly at my local HMV store in my home town of Manchester. Again, I was more than pleased with that cd also. Well worth the 5 star rating! Enjoy!!

Anybody born before 1960 will instantly recognise these tunes that were frequently heard on domestic wireless, before the advent of mass TV viewing and the Beatles. This CD evokes much nostalgia and revives ingrained childhood memories of long ago.

A lot of the music was 'borrowed' and used as a signature tune for radio plays, and documentaries etc. A lasting example, since 1951, is still currently used for the "The Archers" on BBC Radio 4.

The insert cover provides some short biographies of the composers and the names they gave their tunes.

The orchestration is crisp and lively; a thoroughly uplifting programme of music

I was only after one particular piece which I found and I am therefore glad I bought it. It also contained other light music and I will keep this CD in the car. Good for those motorway journeys.

This CD compilation was recommended by Alan Titchmarsh on his radio show and based on this recommendation my mother requested it as a birthday gift. She is very happy with this 4 disc box set - lots of musical theme tunes to reminisce to and enjoy again. Very easy listening and a good selection across the four discs. Also efficient delivery and well pacakged in time for mum's birthday!

I bought this CD set and there was a problem with one of the CDs - A replacement was sent and has arrived and works. Good company to do business with.

Ce disque poursuit l'anthologie de musique légère britannique éditée par le label Hypérion. On retrouve, comme dans le premier volume, le New London Orchestra dirigé avec élégance par Ronald Corp. La prise de son participe à cette élégance.

On trouvera sur ce disque 20 petites pièces, courtes, finement ciselées par des compositeurs parfois très connus (Eric Coates, Frederic Curzon, Albert Ketèlbey pour ne citer qu'eux). Certains airs ont été rendus célèbres par des programmes radiophoniques ou télévisés. Les marches sont à l'honneur sur ce disque, peut-être moins poétique que le premier volume, mais tout aussi entraînant. Dès la première piste, Knightbirdge, tout est dit ; suivent "the Horse Guards", "March", "Girls in Grey", et pour finir "March of the Bowmen". C'est un programme raffiné, avec une dose de couleur locale (Portuguese Party), de belles valses (Bal masqué, Westminster waltz), d'autres dances, et aussi quelques pièces de musique évocative ("Carriage and Pair", "The Runaway Rocking Horse"). Mais on trouvera aussi le fameux "Sanctuary of the Heart", et le si beau "Sailing by"...

Ce disque vient heureusement poursuivre le premier volume, il s'écoute lui aussi avec un plaisir évident. C'est une belle réussite !

The cd set should bring back pleasant memories to those of us who grew up in the UK during and after WW2. The radio programes we listened to were identified by the theme music, which was British Light Music at it's best. Additionally, the sonic quality is great.

Great selection of music, played with energy. A lot of these composers are not well known in the US, but their melodies certainly are. These short pieces range from whimsical to deeply emotional, many calling to mind the early days of radio, cinema, and television (some did find their way into soundtracks back in the day). All in all, it's five hours of great music.
