2027 FIM Speedway GP of Croatia – Donji Kraljevec

Croatia

Speedway Stadion Milenium is the home of speedway in Croatia - sitting on the border between Donji Kraljevec and Gorican, close to the Hungarian border.
The stadium was constructed by former Yugoslavian champion Zvonimir Pavlic, with the whole family playing their part in staging events here.
As well as being a popular practice spot in pre-season due to its favourable climate, Donji Kraljevec is most famous for being the track where American great Greg Hancock sealed his second FIM Speedway World Championship in 2011 – a year after winning the inaugural FIM Croatian Speedway GP in 2010.
Despite Croatia's 10-year absence from the Speedway GP calendar after its third event in 2012, the venue still hosted world-class speedway – including three FIM GP Challenges in 2012, 2019 and 2020.
The club returned to the calendar in epic style in 2022, when Polish racer Bartosz Zmarzlik topped the podium in front of a packed house in the greatest night of racing Croatia has ever witnessed, before he made it two Speedway Stadion Milenium wins in a row in 2023. It was Aussie star Jack Holder's turn to top the podium in 2024.
Speedway GP action has not taken place in Croatia for the past two seasons. But the 2027 FIM Speedway season launches in Donji Kraljevec once again in 2027.

Donji Kraljevec is a charming town made famous by its world-class speedway track.

Located in Međimurje County, Croatia’s northernmost county, it is located on the Hungarian border with Slovenia and Austria also close by.

Fans seeking to enjoy the best of the area can taste the local wines grown on the slopes of the Alpine foothills.

The area’s biggest town is Čakovec – a 25-minute drive from Speedway Stadium Milenium, where visitors can find a beautiful old town, shops, restaurants and hotels.

Croatia’s stunning capital Zagreb is located 110km or an hour and 15 minutes drive to the south west, with the splendour of Hungarian capital Budapest 250km or two and a half hours away by road to the north east.

Speedway GP star Brady Kurtz admits compatriot Jason Doyle proved a stellar substitute for Belle Vue teammate Dan Bewley as the Aces lifted the Rowe Motor Oil Premiership trophy. The world No.3 skipper the Manchester club to a 100-80 aggregate triumph over Sheffield in the Grand Final last week – crowning an impressive season which has seen the Aces dominate.Kurtz praised a fine team performance from his side, and hailed Doyle’s impact as he stepped up to replace the injured Bewley, who was sidelined after breaking his femur in Denmark last May.The Cowra-born racer said: “I think it’s been a massive effort from the whole club – from Lemo (team manager Mark Lemon) to the fans, the team, the volunteers, the track staff, everyone has put a massive effort in to get this over the line.“I’m super happy to be a part of it with a good bunch of guys, and it’s been a great season for us, and nice to win a trophy in our own stadium.“We definitely had a bit of luck that Doyley was available, and he walked on in and filled Dan’s shoes perfectly. He was unbelievable at the end of the year. He did just as good a job as Dan, and he was a major part of this trophy.”While Belle Vue finished 12 points clear at the top of the Premiership table, Kurtz knew there was still a job to do in the play-offs.He said: “It’s always tough when the play-offs come. You don’t really know what to expect, but fair play to the whole team because we really stuck together. We did the business against Ipswich home and away, and then at Sheffield was the big one for us and I’m super proud of the team’s efforts, the whole lot of them.“Congratulations also to Sheffield for making the Final, that’s a credit for any club to get to the Grand Final and they fought their way in through the semis in the best of styles.”

The fans have waited 54 years for this moment, to win a league championship at home, and I’m delighted that they didn’t go home disappointed!“The support we’ve had has been amazing from the fans and the sponsors, and it has just been a really good year.“Some years you win it and it’s by a little bit of luck and chance, but I think this year there are no excuses for anybody – we were the best team. It takes a long time to get here, and the hard work goes well and truly in prior to the season, but credit to our team.“We lost Dan Bewley weeks into the season, which was a big blow, but we brought in Jason Doyle who has been tremendous, a great leader, and then obviously our captain Brady Kurtz has been outstanding. He rallies the troops and really settles the camp.“All of our riders in our one to seven have improved, down to Will (Cairns) who has been a revelation as Rising Star. It has just been a fantastic season.”Sheffield team manager Simon Stead was magnanimous in defeat. He said: “I think a silver medal is probably as good as we could’ve hoped for with the season that Belle Vue have had. They’ve been absolutely unbelievable all season and credit to them. They’ve been at the top all year and you can’t take anything away from them.“After a positive opening couple of races, it quickly got away from us and of course we’re disappointed. We can’t really have too many complaints. It’s a shame we couldn’t run Belle Vue closer than we did, but as I said, we’ve been beaten by the better team and that’s just how it is.”
