Troll [WOW]
I told queendopple that I'd make a post of helpful stuff to her, but then I decided to just make a general information post for anyone who feels like using it.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm by no means a pro at anything in WOW, I've had a fuckton of help and a fuckton of hand holding. So don't by any means take anything I say as gospel, this is just going to be a helpful list of things that confused the hell out of me as I was first starting to play.

Also, there's absolutely no "right way" to play, really. It all depends on what you're going for. I'm a casual player, so that's what this is going to be about.

WOW is a weird community, in a lot of ways you have to pick it up by throwing yourself into it. You really have to allow yourself to be totally confused at first and move from there. It's not the easiest way to go, but nothing beats hands on time. Reading guides will get you pretty far, but it's a game, it's nothing if you can't put what you've read into practice.

Okay, anyway. WOW is full of weird slang and acronyms, SO:

( Let's start with some basic vocab.Collapse )

So, now that that's out of the way, let's talk about some basic aspects of playing.

( Know your roleCollapse )

( Know your class/Getting StartedCollapse )

( What's the difference between a dungeon and a raid?Collapse )

That's no where near everything, but that's a lot of the important stuff. Now for some helpful links:

WOW Wiki - Useful guides for playing and lore.
WOWHead A search-able database of items, quests, and NPCs, very useful.
The Armory A search-able database of players. Type in a character name to find them, see their guild, stats, gear, etc.
Elitest Jerks A forum full of really helpful info. These guys a theorycrafters, meaning they're crunching the numbers and working out the equations to find the optimal combination of everything. Very useful for learning to play a particular class top to bottom.

I'll update this post with more stuff as I think of it.

22nd-Feb-2010 06:38 pm - SDCC PLANNING POST: PART 2
The Boosh [Plans]
Hey guys! SDCC ROOM BOOKING OPENS UP THE 18th

And you know what that means! It's time for another SDCC planning post!

Room booking, like I just said, opens up on the 18th of March, at 9AM PST. Which means, really, 11AM for central timezoners and 12 noon for the rest of us.

Anyway, new this year for SDCC room booking is a ONE NIGHT instant deposit required for all room reservations. So, the amount required for the deposit will vary by hotel, but never fear - All room deposits/reservations are fully refundable until MAY 14th, so no one will be out any money if they cancel their reservation by then.

Ideally, the required deposit will help curtail some of the mad rush for rooms, but it probably won't. SO.

To book rooms, I'm proposing we take a "book 'em first and ask questions later" mentality. Rooms can be canceled right away, but if we don't end up with one, we're screwed - So, the more people we have reserving rooms, the better our chances are.

I'm not 100% sure who definitely wants in on a big group room - The way I figure it, around 6/7 people per (quad) room will make things not only affordable, but pretty comfortable.

( And here are my top hotel choices/projected ratesCollapse )

The totals for 3 nights/person aren't 100% definite or anything - I calculated the totals by 10.5% California tax, but I'm terrible at math, so use this information as a basic guide but not as gospel.

So...yeah! Those are my top 4 choices right now - I would personally love to nab a room in the Omni, because of how CLOSE it is, and it's also an industry hotel, so our chances of rubbing shoulders with VIPs is up there. But, I understand it might be a little more expensive than some people might want so, just let me know - Also, while I'm at it, we should probably get a list of people who definitely want to room together, and who is all willing to try nabbing a room.

So far, I think my friend Katy, my mom, and I are all going to be trying for rooms.

So...Yeah! Let's talk about who definitely wants to room with who, who's going to be trying for rooms - any of that.

I'll make a more updated post when the 18th is closer.
5th-Nov-2009 10:47 pm - SDCC Organization Post - Part 1
Thornton [Dealbreaker]
First Order of Business: Who is going/wanting to go to SDCC next year? Respond to this post, I'll make a filter for further planning posts so people who don't want all of this stuff cluttering up their friends list won't have to scroll past it.

So yeah, comment here, I'll make the filter and add everyone to it.

Secondly: Who is going and needs a room? I guess that's going to be the real point of these posts, so if you're going and you've already got your ducks in a row, you don't need to be added to any filter unless you want - Getting a room at SDCC isn't impossible by any means, but it'll be a lot easier and cheaper if we coordinate rather than everyone trying to do their own thing (Unless of course you just want to do your own thing, XD and then, by all means, go for it - I'm just a cheap bastard).

Anyway - Let's start getting a census of who needs a place to stay.

So yeah - Anyone planning on going to SDCC next year who is looking for room space/room coordination let me know and we'll move forward from there. The more people we have in an organized effort when the rooming block/site opens, the better chances there are of everyone ending up happy.

The Current List:
- Meg
- Katy (Meg's friend)
- Jordan & Cin (+ Friends)
- Melanie
- Brett (+ maybe Erik?)

EDIT: Derp. I forgot to clarify this. I suck at organizing things. - This isn't a post declaring specific rooms/groups/hotels or whatever that people for sure want to stay in, it's just to get a decent sized group together to "attack" the booking site when it opens - Booking as many rooms as possible between different groups of people is the safest bet, rather than having one or two people hope for the best trying to just get a room for themselves, IMHO. SO, lots of rooms booked means lots of rooms that can be shifted around/changed names/cards/whatever = lots of happy people, right? Right!

Flapjack [Okey dokey!]
Hey guys! Thanks so much for all the well wishing via text and nellanell's post! I really appreciate it.

I'm home from the hospital and doing pretty decent, aside from some pet crap being around the house (I live on the bottom floor, so when I'm not here, no one checks) but that's alright, I think I'm also just way more high strung from the drugs and what not than I really ought to be.

Anyway, clearly I'm able to sit up and everything - It's not the most comfortable, but it's more comfortable than laying flat down, so until my mom gets home with my meds and one of those chair-pillow things, I'm gonna stay sitting :D It's nice to be at my own desk again.

Hopefully I'll be able to go back to school on Wednesday, the doctor said - I just can't drive until I'm off the narcotics. I really hope I'm not getting to far behind.

As far as I know I'm still good for Youma? I should be at least. I'm not going to bring any costumes or anything, and I definitely can't finish 6, but that's how it goes, I guess - I'll try to keep everyone updated. I'll be more sure of what the doctor's think when they give me a call tomorrow. If they don't tell me no, then I'm going to do my best to get there.

When I'm feeling a little less out of it and well rested, I've got some fun crazy-hospital-roommate stories to share

So.

Went to the Hammerhead's show tonight - The Hammerheads being the band Anton Yelchin's in.

Before the show, I checked their myspace and they had announced a 'contest' for two free tickets, where you were supposed to just message them with a reason, so naturally I responded with the fact that I'd came all the way out from California.

They messaged back saying that it was a really convincing testimonial, etc, but I didn't win - Which, whatever, I was totally cool with.

But then, at the show - They finally take the stage after two other bands and start playing. We were standing RIGHT in front of Anton, which was awesome - So they're playing and playing and sounding excellent and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, between songs, Dave, the bassist, is like.

"So uh, where's Megatron?" My myspace name is Meg[atron].

So I'm standing right there like "...uh..."

And he's like "Meg? Megatron? Is Megatron here?" Some guy starts screaming, and I'm like, wait, they're talking about me - So me, and my friends all start waving and I'm like "I'M RIGHT HERE~"

And they look at me and are like "Oh hey that's Meg, she's a really huge fan! Thanks for coming out!" or something like that - whatever they said, i don't remember it verbatim, but yeah...@_@

So they finish their set awesomely, the main band - the Chelsea Girls, who turned out to be a really interesting all female metal cover group - took the stage, and played.

OH YEAH, I FORGOT - Before the Hammerheads came on, I turned around to see none other than Kat mother fucking Dennings standing not two feet behind me.

So yeah, there's that.

But anyway. The Chelsea Girls finished up and the venue started clearing out so we hung around so we could at least see the band - We ran into Dave, the bassist, first, and he shook my hand and was super nice - then he went back to get the rest of the band, so we waited around.

Some guys from Norway started talking to us, they were fun.

And then, all of a sudden, my friend is pushing me towards Anton and the drummer Ryan.

Lots of hugging happened, just adorable and chatty and I was tripping over words the whole time. They were really impressed I'd come so far and Anton was like "Have fun at comic con!" and I was like ":D"

So I got a picture with them when Ryan is like "whoa whoa, wait, let's do a kissing picture!"

So....yeah, both Ryan and Anton stood on either side of me and kissed my cheeks. I've got a picture of it.

Oh my god I can't believe that happened.

Oh my god. This report probably makes no sense because I'm still jacked on adrenaline.

Holy fuck.
