11:37 pm - acroyoga FTW!
I think about posting sometimes. But then I don't. Ha ha!

Check out this sweet video of an acroyoga sequence I learned at a workshop a month or two ago. They filmed us doing the same sequence and then edited it all together into one. I'm the flyer in grey shorts and a blue shirt. I'm particularly happy that I got the hand to hand handstand at the very end. Yay! Of course, they spelled my name wrong in the credits.

If 8 min is too long, here's a sped up version.

02:17 pm - i can haz yoga
I haven't posted in an age. And I don't really expect to start again now. But! I do want to say that I'm alive. And! I just taught my very first official yoga class, Dharma Mittra style. It was actually quite a bit easier than I thought it would be. I feel really good about it. I'm in North Carolina at the Brevard Music Festival. While I'm here I'll be teaching 2 yoga classes per week. Hooray!

11:39 pm - things on my mind
I feel vaguely dissatisfied tonight. I'm not sure exactly why. Things it could be:

• School. As per usual, I go up and down all the time. I get excited to be studying music, and I git sick of it, bored, unmotivated. I had really good piano lesson today. I feel like my teacher and I have finally hit our groove together. For at least the 3rd week in a row, I went into the lesson feeling frustrated/nervous/self critical and came out feeling calm, appreciative, and more at peace. That is significant! But even just a few hours later I'm again not feeling great about it all.

• Relationships. Namely, I want a companion. I want a cuddlebuddy. I want sex. I have lots and lots of love that is searching for a home, a recipient. I can be balanced on my own, but I can't ignore that fact that I believe life is meant to be shared. I want someone to share it with. I found out today that a friend I'm attracted to went from complicated relationship status to engaged. I was selfishly a bit sad when I found out, but I'm happy for her. This in an of itself certainly isn't what's getting me down, but it does poke a bit at my sense of loneliness.

• Chemical. I wonder sometimes how much of my ups and downs could be a brain chemical thing. I certainly do not meet the qualifications for depression in a clinical sense, but I wonder if I have a bit of predisposition toward moodiness that goes beyond the norm. Would it be useful to keep track of when I'm feeling good and when I'm down? Would finding patterns show anything?

==========

Here are some other things I've been thinking about. I'm somewhat seriously planning a trip to NYC this summer, to last perhaps a month. The primary reason is to be at the Dharma Mittra Yoga Center. I want to continue what I started with my teacher training last summer, and I need another influx of ideas and good energy. Also, I've been wanting to visit NYC for some time now. I've essentially never been there, and I feel that as an creative artist that's rather unacceptable.

I was also thinking that as long as I'm there, I should visit the various conservatories, perhaps arrange to meet some piano teachers. I don't know yet if I really want to get a doctorate in music, but if I do continue on in school after next year, I need to have applications in this December. This got me thinking; I don't know if most music schools would even be appropriate for me. Doctoral students, even performers, have to do some kind of research, right? I think this is true. I've been thinking that what I would want to research is how to integrate yoga, eastern philosophy, meditation, etc. into music practice and performance. This is something I'm very interested in. It is also something that most faculty members at most music schools are not interested in, or at least know nothing about. So if I want to research this, I may need to look for very specific people and places where I would be supported in this. Which means that maybe I would not end up at any music school currently on my radar. Or maybe it is something I'd have to approach through a different field- psychology? Religious studies? I have no idea. This will require some research and a lot of thought.

12:19 am - Stuff and things
I haven't posted in a while. Some things:

• Practicing tonight was fun. Prokofiev is a crazy mofo. SRSLY. The recapitulation in the sonata I'm playing just goes berserk. He takes every single theme from the entire movement and smashes them on top of each other. Your hands are flying all over the place, crossing each other. It's totally awesome.

• Piano lesson yesterday was good, even though I had hardly practiced in couple weeks. Different from last semester: I now leave lessons feeling better than I walked in. This is a major and important change.

• Spring break was good. Diamond Mountain University is a cool Buddhist retreat center. Will have to write more about later.

• Acroyoga in Tucson was awesome, as was getting to briefly see schnarkola. Learned TONS of new stuff. Got many compliments from the teacher, and he wants me to come perform with him in the fall at a thing in Sedona. I also have a friend here who wants to put together an acro burlesque show.

• Backpacking was fun, but the Mazatzal Wilderness was a bit disappointing. I still haven't found nature in Arizona that really sends me. The grand canyon is an exception to that. My boots suck and need to go back to REI. My new Arc'teryx Naos backpack is the greatest piece of gear since sliced awesome. It fits SOOO well and is incredibly comfortable. I have no bruises or sore spots or anything from the backpack. Also, I seem to be in really good shape and can cover terrain quickly. And my knees don't suck!

• Girls are tantalizing and frustrating. One girl I'm very interested in has said she's also interested in me, but is unavailable due to complicated relationship circumstances. We flirt a lot and it is fun but frustrating. Another girl I'm interested in is also flirty, but is in a relationship (at least according to facebook). The girl I dated briefly a few months ago reappeared out of the void, and we had a lot of fun hanging out the other day. It's frustrating that we're both very attracted to each other, but she can't keep clear boundaries. She says doesn't want to date or sleep together because I've made it clear I don't see serious long term potential, yet whenever we hang out we end up making out until she pulls away . Argh.

12:07 pm - I am an idiot, take 4985572098
Today I decided to send in my application to Birthright Israel, a program that provides free 10 day trips to Israel for Jews who have never been to Israel before. They started accepting applications Feb 19, but apparently they have already stopped accepting them (as of last Friday). Awesome. They have an age limit of 26, which means this is my last year of eligibility. They are doing more trips this winter, but I doubt it will work with me schedule then. Gah.

I really didn't think that they would close applications in just 8 days. I was trying not to let the same thing happen here as did with the acroyoga immersion which filled up before I could decide about applying. I hate decision through indecision.

11:00 pm - OMG funny
I seriously cannot remember the last time I laughed this hard! I was literally crying just now. At least 3 times. Courtesy of Boing Boing, I bring you the funniest thread I think I've ever read on the internet. I think I remember know why the internet was created. Yes, I read through all 242 comments (as of the time of this post). And while you could certainly skim through just to see the pretty sparkly pictures ::cough misshepeshu cough::, I maintain it's funnier if you actually read through it. But for those of you with absolutely no patience at all, I'll take you ( straight to the bleeding sketches!Collapse )

EDIT: One more thing since I can't resist. This thread has one of the best collections of animated gifs I've seen. This one is probably my favorite:

01:25 pm - Neat-o light installation
Check out this cool video of an LED installation at the National Gallery of Art!

Villareal "Multiverse" National Gallery of Art, Washington DC from Walter Patrick Smith on Vimeo.

Per Gizmodo: "The name of the installation is Multiverse, and it was installed by artist Leo Villareal in a 200-foot-long tunnel in the National Gallery of Art in Washingtong DC. The entire thing features 41,000 LEDs that animate and move on their own, using randomness to ensure that no one will see the same configurations twice. Multiverse will be on display throughout 2009."

I'm sure it says something about me that while watching this the installation may as well have just scrolled the words "Hie Thee To Burning Man." Makes me think of the Cubitron.
