i was locked out of my house when i was about 14 and had been dropped off by a friend after school. after she drove down my ultra long driveway (we lived in the middle of nowhere), i realized i didn't have my keys and had about two hours to wait until my mom and/or stepdad would come home from work. it was really cold outside, and i had a jacket but was still freezing. i didn't really know my neighbors nor did i feel particularly sociable at the moment (had had a really shitty day at school...had actually been dumped by a boy who was in the car that had driven me home!) so i just sat under our back deck (we had a big raised porch)...i arranged my bag and jackets like blankets and stretched out with my walkman (for reals) and begun to feel really sorry for myself. yes, i was always really constructive. :) in a little while two of our cats came up and lay down with me. soon after that we were joined by my yorkshire terrier. by the time my mom came home, i had fallen asleep with two cats zipped inside my coat and the dog lying at my head....at the time i thought the remarkable part of the incident was how cold it was outside. now, however, i can't imagine living a life when having such sweet creatures around who recognized a cold little girl who needed some love seemed so commonplace. i guess the event did stick out in my mind since i remember it; however, i am happy that now the memory that stands out for me the most is that of the love i felt from my furry little friends rather than the anger i felt at myself for forgetting my keys or the discomfort i might have felt from the cold (before my friends covered me with their fur, anyway.)
anyway, if such a thing were to happen to me today, i would definitely realize the wonderfulness of the incident. and i would welcome it with open arms!
i just got an email asking me to donate $5 to help save it. i think it was from the aclu. now what a question.... i mean, i:m totally willing to give $5 if it will preserve the constitution of the united states. i really can:t believe we are pandering for donations to preserve the founding document of our nation though. hm, maybe i should just stop expecting so much so i can avoid such unpleasant surprises.
