Occasionally on Australian forums you notice a non-Aussie pop in and remark in shock/surprise/amazement at a prevailing community attitude.

I was reading comments about child support recently. Now, you have to understand that a large majority of Australian men do not see why they should pay child support. Women also join in the bitching about OMG the huge amounts of support their boyfriend/husband has to pay to their ex. I'll add here that Australian child support payments are not particularly onerous. The mandated child support I should be receiving is $7 Australian a week. About $8 US. Pathetic, yes?

Anyway, this American commenter remarked that they found the 'I shouldn't have to pay!' argument pathetic. They added that nowhere else in the world would this attitude be acceptable.

I fucking agree. I'm so bloody tired of listening to 'but I'm poooooor and my ex-wife rakes in money from the government.'

I just want to scream 'Listen, sweetheart, they're your kids. You breed them = you feed them. Welfare, regardless of what form it comes in, is a back up. It's not a system designed to absolve your piss weak, selfish, lazy arse of financial responsibility.'

Urgh. Just urgh. I swear, this country has bred some woeful examples of humanity.

When Patrick was a baby I used to have the same image flash into my head all of the time. I kept picturing myself older, driving a sedan, and looking into the back seat to see two young boys sitting together. The boys were very close in age, and the premonition was very intense. I never had any doubt it was my future and these were my children.

The older Patrick got, the more I freaked out, thinking 'I'm going to have two more boys, but what about Patrick? If I don't get pregnant and have another baby, that means that he won't be one of my two boys'. I couldn't figure out how Patrick fitted into the picture of two young boys, very close in age, sitting in the back of a sedan.

I'm 29 now, and have a Camry. D has a son who is 7 months younger than Patrick. The other week, I looked around at Patrick and O sitting in the back of my car, and thought 'thank God'.

I can't tell you how relieved I am.

I update so infrequently that with this entry, I'll have posts from 2007-2010 all on the same page. Awful. I used to blog daily.

I am still at my insurance job, still live with Paddy, and still seeing D. Also, in January, Patrick and I made our first trip overseas together! We went to Singapore and the UAE. Singapore was just so... nice. I think if I'd just spent 2 weeks there, I would have had a really chill holiday.

The UAE varies between awesome and outright terrifying. I would never regret going, but as a single, white female I would probably never go to Dubai again. Oddly, Sharjah is lovely, but perhaps by the time I got to Sharjah I had realised that eye contact is very bad and clothes had to be super loose, etc, so I didn't unwittingly encourage idiotic behaviour. i didn't check out the other emirates, ran out of time.

Our stopover between Singapore and Dubai was Chennai. The airline was Jet Airways. People; fly with them. They are super awesome. I seriously cannot tell you how great they are. Anyway, you do not want to know what happens when you set off the metal detector during a time when Indian airports are on high alert due to terrorist threats. OMG, you are going to get frisked in a way that wouldn't happen in Australia unless you where in a private room and had signed something agreeing to it(in Chennai, women get the metal detector treatment in a screened off area, which lessons the embarrassment somewhat, although the metal in my underwire bra and jeans set it off). I can't even write this without crying with laughter at the memory. It was the most shocking, but least offensive, thing that has ever happened to me.

As Paddy and I reached my car with a trolley full of groceries, Patrick shouted 'Mummy, look, there's lots of money!'

Directly behind my car was $100 in twenty dollar notes. As I saw it, I heard a young girl (thirteen-ish, exclaiming the same to her mother). Between Patrick, this girl and her mother and I, we found a total of $320 in the carpark. As the mother and I were collecting the cash and debating whether or not it was best to take it to Woolworths (the largest shop in the complex) or what, we realised there were several men picking up twenty dollar notes, putting them in their pockets, and then driving off.

Am I the only one who is disgusted at this blatant thievery? Why, if you are driving a $50k car do you need to steal money that someone has obviously lost? There are actually times in my life where I think sharia law has a place, and this is one of them.

I am getting cosmetic surgery.

I KNOW.

I have never paid more than $30 for a haircut, was 27 before I got a manicure and own a grand total of 2 lipsticks. One of my lipsticks came free in a 'box of mystery stuff' I ordered from a website. I own several pairs of pants in the same colour and style because hey, if they fit, why bother buying different styles? I leave my posh Jacqui E suit in the cupboard at work for days when my boss gives me those 'Oh God, what are you trying to pass off as office wear' looks rather than, you know, actually wearing a (gulp) $400 suit. The rest of the time, if I am going to wear a suit, it is generally one from Kmart or the factory outlets, because I think they're more comfy and I don't have to worry about wrecking them.

And now I am getting cosmetic surgery.

The reason is thus; I have bad skin. I have broken veins, rosacea, discolouration, freckles and large pores. I've had terrible skin since I was 13 and I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I had my consultation today and paid for my three IPL treatments and got a box of stuff I need to put on my face for the the next couple of weeks in preparation for my lasering. Do you know how many steps there are in this skin care routine?

SIX. SIX STEPS!!!! OMG, I am going to die:( I only just recently started washing my face at night.

I'm coming to realise that my life would probably be easier if I was a simpering mess who relied on other people to make decisions for me, pay my expenses, and generally be responsible for me.

I have always prided myself on my independence. I don't care what jobs, and how many of them, I have to do to keep my head above water. Hell, I went back to work two weeks after my son was born because I refused to let him be raised in poverty and after moving out at 19 have only lived with a parent for 6 weeks since (and that was only because Stuart and I had just split up). The latter might be weird to you if you come from a country where 18 year olds routinely live independently, but remember that I live in Australia, a country where it is quite common to find 30 year olds living at home and leaching off their parents (and I can assure you said 30 year olds have no intention of supporting their parents when they are too old to work).

The point to this rambling is; it doesn't do me any favours.

It does, however, give me more of a 'right' to air my opinions, of which I have many, vastly-unpopular ones. I would abort a Down Syndrome baby, I am anti-Israel, I'm a feminist, and I hate hate hate hate people who come to work high.

Hmm.
