| | Storytime! | ] | Alright folks, I have come to the conclusion that all sorts of fun car trouble happens during winter break when the weather is at its finest...All sarcasm aside, listen up.
Ok, imagine this...The last time I was driving, my battery light went on. So, the next time I'm out, I stop by Les Schwab's to have them check my battery charging system to see if that was the problem, or if I needed to buy a new battery. Right as I pull into the Les Schwab parking lot, my steering starts to go, along with all the power, and I'm barely able to wrestle it into a spot. Now, I'm doing this now because I'm on my way up to Reno to hang out with Heather for a few days, and I want my car to be in fantastic running order. So, I'm at Les Schwab's, and I tell this young (and coincidentally whee-wheew) guy that I'd like to check my charger. So he comes out, hooks up his reader, and says that everything is fine. I thank him for his time even though I'm a little skeptical, and try to start my car. Nothing. It's dead. So I go back in and talk to the same guy, and let him know my car's dead now. "Oh! Well then, let's go take a closer look then!" So he unscrews everything, and there's a lot of corrosion on the connection posts, along with the fact that my battery is over 7 years old...Apparently for that brand, 5 years is pushing it. So, I get a new battery, thinking that the problem is solved and my life is grand.
Now, I make it up to Reno without any troubles, my car's running fine. Once I get to the Best Western where Heather's staying, we decide it's late enough in the day to head out to Olive Garden (our traditional one-stop haunt). So, the Olive Garden is only about 5 miles away from the hotel, and I set out with high hopes. However, at a stoplight, my car dies. In the middle of traffic. In the middle of the road. So I try to start it a few times, and it's no good. Heather and I make a few calls, then try it again, and it barely limps along the one block it had to go to get into the parkinglot. We decide that there's no reason to do anything on an empty stomach, so we go eat, since we're in the right parkinglot anyway. Fast forward an hour. Try the car again and it starts, but it's REALLY shaky. As soon as I get back on the road, I know there's no way we can make it, especially if we hit any red lights. So I pull into the Border's parking lot, right across the way. Great progress, I know. I call mom from inside the Border's and we get a taxi back to the room.
Next day, we get an unrequested wake-up call from my mother, who has my entire course of action planned out. She's already called the Les Schwab's in Reno, literally a block-and-a-half away from my car. So, we get a taxi ride to Les Schwab's, a service vehicle gives us a ride to my car, then they jump it. At this point it is necesarry to tell you what the weather's like. It SUCKS. Grape sized rain drops are falling hard, and there's a really strong wind. Horrible conditions, I can't see a thing when I'm outside because of my glasses, and inside my car is just as bad, because we can't waste the battery on the heater, so the windows are fogged up and I can hardly see.
So, my car's running, and the guy waits long enough to see us drive out of our spot before leaving, because there was a huge list of people he had to help besides us. I make it half a block, I'm in the turnlane on Kietzke to turn onto Virginia, and I can see the Les Schwabs out of my side window. And then my car dies. Again. In the middle of traffic. And this time I don't even have enough juice to run my hazard lights. Which is really bad, because I'm a little silver car that blends into heavy rain, low light conditions. So, we make a few more calls, one to Les Schwab, where we find out they DON'T have a tow-truck, and one of which to USAA for a tow-truck to get us the last little bit of the way to Les Schwab, where hopefully they can fix everything. Because there's no way Heather could push my car that far, since I'd have to be steering...Anyway, mom calls me and tells me to "No Jamie! Cancel the tow-truck! You only get a certain amount of tows a year and this will count against it! I've already called Les Schwab's just hold tight!"
At this point, I'm more than a little annoyed with mom, because I already CALLED Les Schwab's and they DON'T have a tow-truck, so what do they think they can do? Apparently, this. A different guy came from Les Schwab's, and pulled next to us. (Seriously, we were in one of the best places we could have been when my car died. We're far back in the left turn-lane, there's a cement wall on one side, and on my right is a crossed out free zone, where cars can go around me safely to make it to the light to turn. Fantastic, really) Ok, so this guy drives up, and he tries jumping my car again to get it the last little bit to the shop. Seriously, I just need to turn left, go a quarter of a mile, and then I'm there. This time I think ahead and ask if he doesn't mind following us back to the shop, just in case. So, this jump lasts me 100 feet, now placing me at the FRONT of the turnlane, effectively blocking everyone. The weather's still crummy, and then this man, this saviour that we never got a name for made the suggestion: "Put the car in neutral, then when the light's green I'll push you through the intersection. Aim for the little triangle of gravel, and I'll be right there." And he does! The weather is horrible, there's no way that could be fun, and he single-handedly pushes my car through the intersection to safety. He has to wait through another cycle of lights to meet us there, then he checks my battery, tells me he's just going to go to Les Schwab to get a new one, because it's the only way I'm going to make it there alive, and says: "Now I'm going to leave now, but don't worry! I'll be back!" He comes back, puts in a new battery, I drive safely to Les Schwab's, then Heather and I spend close to 3 hours eating their popcorn while they replace my alternator. Which is what the real problem was....Ugh.
Anyway, here's another exciting adventure to chock away under the heading of, Winter Break Car Woes. |

| | mellow | ] | Ok, this makes me laugh. I'm doing my Italian homework right now, and we're doing excersizes using volerci and metterci. Basically so we can ask things like "How many ... does it take to...?", or "It takes ... to...". SO, we're being given statements to form into a question of numbers, and this is the one that made me laugh:
6. poliziotti ad un concerto di Linkin Park. -Quanti poliziotti ci vorranno ad un concerto di Linkin Park? -Ci vorranno cento poliziotti!
Basically, "How many policemen does it take for a Linkin Park concert?" Ah, good times, good times.
Oh, and I'm probably going to get to play Halo 3 this weekend! (In the company of a very attractive man...) ANYway, life is looking up for me. |

| | Beirut- Elephant Gun | ] | Ok, so I really haven't posted anything since May...Is that bad? You guys know I'm not dead, and I know I'm not dead, but here we are anyway.
My classes are going alright, I have 2nd year Italian, 2 art history courses, drawing 100 (FINALLY!), and Anthropology 400A. I'm still in White Pine, and I'm still working in the phone-research-basement-dungeon-mindnumbing-repetetive-talking-jobby-thingy, but I might be getting a new job on campus! It has to do with making websites and posters and stuff for the school of medicine, and it pays $10 an hour! Wish me luck guys! I already sent in my resume, and they said that after it's been looked at by a panel and they're interested, they'll be contacting me sometime next week (Sep. 10th). So I guess that's my big news, even though it's not really that big. I hope I get the job though. I'll only have to work 15 hours a week, and it's in a field related to my major. Sweet.
Yep. Anyway, I'm going to be heading home to G-ville sometime this evening, and I'll give you guys a call! I'd love to do something tomorrow, even if it's just sitting in somebody's living room and giggling. You know, about all the good things in life that are worth giggling about. I still have a few chapters to read for my classes, and a stupid grid drawing due on Monday, so I guess I better get to work if I don't want to have to cram it all in Monday morning. At 6am. When I won't be awake yet. But that's how much time I'd need if I don't do it now. Damn. Better get on that now.
Welp, be seeing you guys! |

Alright, you guys need to check out this band. You may not recognize the voice of the singer, but I sure as fuck do. Ahem. His name is Johnny Yong Bosch, and if you don't recognize that name, you really don't know me that well. You might also know Johnny in his role as Adam the Black Ranger in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie, or more recently in his voice acting career as a certain blonde haired, gun totin' plant. Yeah. I need this CD desperately...

So fun!
Oh yeah, and I'm moving out of the dorms today, so I'll be back in town! I'm going to be working Sun-Tuesday every week this summer, but other then that I'm free! We gotta do stuff... |

 | You scored as Seishirou. You are like Seishirou Sakurazuka from Tokyo Babylon and X. Um... that's scary. People who do not know you very well may very well think that you are a kind and gentle soul - someone who loves animals and cares about the environment. But really, you probably couldn't care less. Your true nature is that you are a bit obsessive and antisocial. And maybe a bit of a stalker. And all of this would be a bad thing... if you weren't so damn cool.

| | Megalomaniac- Incubus | ] | Alright folks, I finally read the second-to-last chapter of Trigun Maximum. I downloaded it as soon as it was available, however I was just now able to bring myself to read it. Keep in mind that it is the SECOND-TO-LAST chapter of Trigun Maximum EVER...
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Don't get me wrong, I really want to know how Nightow resolves this huge sweeping epic of his that has held me entranced for over 7 years now. However, I also have the overwhelming urge to mutter obscenities and not-so-veiled threats to whomever is nearest whenever I think that Trigun is coming to an end...Ah well, the end is a natural part of life. And I can always re-read them, right?
Please end it well Nightow! Hear the prayer of a little lost forlorn reader, and spare me the indignities of an anticlimactic ending! I request, nay, I DEMAND satisfaction! |
