....

Hey all. I've been overwhelmed with the urge to post. So let's see where it goes, shall we?

- Work has been cool. Slowing turning the office from bland to awesome. It kind of reminds me of that first apartment everyone gets. Small with beige rugs and off-white walls. Believe me I'm not complaining though, I never realized how awesome having an office can be. I shut the door, play some metal, and the hours fly by.

- Hip is a world of pain. I'm lucky to get 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Pretty much just hurts all the time, varying from "dull roar" to "everything is tinted red". I've noticed it's starting to affect my disposition. I'm getting angry easier. No fun batman. No fun at all.

- I have a doctors appointment this week. I think that actually KNOWING what's wrong with me will help. I made the mistake of going to WebMD for some info. Just a small fyi, never go to that site unless you want to have a panic attack. I should've know better seeing as how when i threw my back out Jess checked WebMD and the first few suggestions were a heart attack or stroke. I put in my symptoms and it informed me that I have either a paralysis-inducing form of arthritis or bone marrow cancer. Not that I think I have either of those things, but man was it a stress-inducing experience.

- I started playing WoW again. I missed the social aspect. We'll see how long it lasts.

- VISIT BY DANIELLE AND ANDER IS IMMANENT. I can't tell you how excited i am to see these two punks. It'll be good to have friends around again.

- Cape Cod trip is appearing on the horizon. I sent off the check for the cabin this week. I really cannot wait to be there again. It has been the only place I have ever been where I can feel totally relaxed. It's like my private pocket of peace and seclusion in the world. I love it more that I could ever describe.

Well, that's about all I can think of with 5 beers coursing through my veins. Don't judge, it works better than any over-the-counter pain meds I've tried. In short, life is pretty damn good, even with it's speed-bumps.

So I'm putting off my homework while watching the Superbowl and reading up on the latest conservative wank on how "video games are TEH EVILS!" For those that don't reek of geek, a conservative talkshow host, and then Fox News did coverage of the game Mass Effect because it has a tame but evidently incredible corrupting and horrible sex scene. Talkshow transcript here and Fox News transcript here.

All in all pretty entertaining, and then I get to the comments. Someone links to an ad for Orangina in France.

Heh, could you imagine if this was on u.s. airwaves? I say they air it here, might give all of the elderly conservatives a collective heart attack. They we could put all of this uninformed game hate behind us.

New Year Rockin Eve

To celebrate New Years we decided to go out. We went to Suburban Tap. It was actually quite fun, until it closed at 11pm. Oh well.
So we bought an extra six-pack and are huddled around the tv with Jessica's parents.
I'm thinking Ryan Seacrest signed the same unholy contract that Dick Clark signed. He just keeps popping up.
Speaking of Dick Clark it's kind of sad to see him post-stroke. Although for only one years worth of speech therapy he sounds pretty good.
My god, Maria Carey can't even lip synch well. I don't think they can find crowd shots of people even pretending to enjoy that gold diggers pathetic show.
Will update this post as the evening goes on. Hope everyone has a good time! Happy new Years!

-UPDATE-

Eight minutes to go and I still hate Ryan Seacrest...

-UPDATE NUMERO TWO-

happy new years! and stuff...

-UPDATE NUMBER THREE-

Ryan Seacrest just called Dick Clark "Dick Carey"... Goes to show where Ryan's mind is seeing as how that mostly plastic cow is busy posing for pictures in the background. Ok time to knock back another beer or two and then go to bed. Starting tomorrow I plan on fulfilling my randomly generated resolution of making as many people as possible hate me. I've translated this into removing what filter I had between what I thought and what I said. California won't know what hit it.

Whoops, beer is empty. Must rectify this immediately.
So here's the skinny low-down jive. Jessica and I recieved a giftcard to Best Buy as part of our Cristmas haul. We are splitting the contents of the card between us. I am torn between getting Dragon Quest 8 now or waiing until I am finished with Magna Carta. Also, I am unsure if I should use my part of the giftcard to cover some of the cost of the game or if I should Purchase the game with greenbacks and use the giftcard for other fun stuff. I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to try the Poll function for the first time. So what do you think? Share with me your opinions.

Poll #642112 The DQ8 Poll Of Doom

When Should I Buy Dragon Quest 8?

Buy it now. Even though I won't start it until I finish Magna Carta.
3(30.0%)
Wait until I am done with Magna Carta and then buy it.
3(30.0%)
Wait until it's available cheap and used sometime during Spring Semester and not have a game for awhile.
4(40.0%)

Payment Method

Use the giftcard to cover most of it and pay the rest in cash.
5(55.6%)
Use my own money to pay for it and use the giftcard for DVD's or CD's
4(44.4%)

- UPDATE -
The Poll is neck and neck! Get your friends to vote! I'll leave the poll running until next week when I have an opportunity to shop.
Also, as seen on daniemeg my 2006 New Years Resolution..... watch out world.

In the year 2006 I resolve to:

Make as many people hate me as I possibly can.

Fear The Evil That Is The Bathroom Door

Ok so this is a story about what happened to me two days ago. I am posting as Jessica and her family found it funny so I figured most of my friends would also find it funny....

It all started Monday afternoon. It was the day after Christmas so we all went out for a brief shopping trip, taking advantage of the post-holiday sales. We left a little bit early, and much to my dismay I was unable to shower before we left. After a few hours of shop-hopping (where I netter a pair of jeans, a pair of cords, and a new book) we went home. Jessica and her mother decided they would brave the drooling masses and see what's good at the mall. Jessica's brother Ben and her father decided they were going to play a little tennis (nothing like spending the holidays with active people to remind you how much of a lazy lump you are, but I digress) and both offered me an invite to come along. Seeing as how stupid masses drives me to bloodthristy rage and I am not that adept at sports I opted to stay home and take a shower.

After everyone left I went upstairs and got ready for a shower. The bathroom is laid out like this: it is separated into two sections. When you walk through the door you enter a small room with a sink and a mirror. Through a second, sliding door is the toilet and shower. So I close the first door and disrobe (calm down ladies) and get in the shower. Before I do I shut the secondary door, thinking it would help in keeping the mirror from steaming up too much. After a relaxing wash I step out, dry off, wrap a towel around my waist and go to open the sliding door. Problem is, the door wont open. It slides open about half an inch, and then the bottom portion gets caught on something. Now keep in mind, nobody is home and most likely nobody will be home for quite some time. Which honestly, I saw as a good thing. The only thing worse then needing to be rescued from the clutches of a greedy bathroom, is being rescued while in nothing but a towel. That's right, clothes were on the other side of the door.

After a bit of pushing i can see that the door is getting stuck on a small piece of plastic that serves as a bumper for the door. Luckily, the door slides out of the frame enough for me to be able to push the bottom half forward a bit. I pushed the door forward and managed to pry the piece of plastic out of the frame. Proud of my own genius I go to open the door. But wait, the door wont open, I've pushed it out of the frame enough to remove the blockage but now the door is at an angle and is butting against the frame. Well crap, guess my "genius" was actually stupidity. Way to plan ahead there killer. Now I can pull the door towards me by wrapping my fingers around it but can't pull it back enough to fit back into the frame. So I grabbed, some conditioner (Herbal Essences, just in case you want to prepair for a similar situation), oiled up my fingers, and managed to pull the door as close as I could and managed to rock the door back and forth until it popped back into the frame. Success! I am better than you sliding door! Better! Than! You! I got dressed and went downstairs with no other trouble. I guess the other doors in the house had heard of my adventure and knew better than to try and capture me. It was a good thing I got out too, as nobody got home for another hour, and it had taken me about twenty minutes or so to get out of the bathroom.

So that's it. That was (hopefully) my only taste of adventure this vacation. The moral of the story: never trust a sliding door with shifty eyes. It may capture you with the intent of holding you for ransom to pay for it's Lemon Pledge addiction.
Greeting from Georgia everyone.

Well the chaos has subsided. Paper has been ripped, ribbons torn, and boxes plundered. We are all now basking in that post-gift glow. Everyone made out well too. After a little playtime we all went to see Chronicles of Narnia. Pretty good flick too. I had thought of reading the book again first but never found time. Now we're all relaxing until dinner. Baked ham = yum. Anyway, here's what I got this season.

various shirts
a kickass scarf with slytherin house colors
a jack skelington wallet that rocks the world
a giant umbrella
coffee
a baseball cap and giftcard to sport authority for new sneakers
a wireless controller for my ps2
a sleek sexy-as-all-hell black ipod nano

Plus Jess and I got giftcards to Starbucks (cause we're addicts) and Red Lobster/Olive Garden (Perhaps Ander and Danielle will be free for dinner?). I also got some much-needed cash from my family.
So yea, nice nice day.

Decompression is Complete

Let me just start out by saying that I have done absolutely. nothing. all. week. And dammit, I love it!
It's one of those things where you dont truly realize how stressed/tired/angsty/mutated you are until you have some time to step away from it all. I'm sure all of you "non-students" wont want to hear this but since break began my days have involved sleeping in, playing video games, and shopping. Really quite relaxing. I think my vegitative state is about to end as I am starting to feel myself growing guilty over my lazieness. I guess its because over finals weeks there was just so much to do that now that I have free time I have a constant feeling that there is work to be done.

We (as in the lovely shakinros and myself) are flying out to Atlanta early tomorrow. Jess's mom got us plane tockets so we could spend the holidays in GA. I think a part of it stems from "mom needs her babies home" syndrome. Every mom gets it, especially when presented with the chance that her children may not be home for the holidays. When she found out we werent sure what we were doing for Christmas she panicked slightly and got us tickets to GA. I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all, a vacation to GA will be nice. I'm just saying that I think it's because she is realizing that Jess might not be home for every holiday anymore.

Once we return from GA I need to get back into the swing of things school-wise. Sure classes dont begin until Jan 16th but all of my classes start at 8 in the freakin morning, which means I gotta learn to stop going to bed at 4am and sleeping in. Plus there are a few personal projects I want to devote some time to before classes start up again. Will post pictures when I can.

But enough about me, lets talk about me for awhile instead.

Week in Review

Ahh, the first day of winter break, how I love thee.

Man what a week. Way too much caffiene and not enough sleep. But now its all done.
( I guess I'll start from the begining. (Now with shiney pictures!)Collapse )
So thats about it. I could ramble on more about the whole "no sleep" thing but you can just look through previous entries to see how much of a whining bastard I was. Regardless, I am now free for a month so I'll be around more often. My apologies to everyone for not checking LJ ever.

Free At Last!

I have officially survived finals week!!!!!!!

Will go into detail tomorrow! And now, I sleep...

Busy Week Ahead For Me...

I shouldn't even be writing in my LJ right now, I simply have too much to do. The only reason why I doing this is because my type teacher just walked by and said "Take a break. Take a break right now. It's nice that you're putting so much effort into my project but I'll feel bad if it costs you your sanity". I can only imagine what I looked like that caused her to say this. I was going to post about the wonderful weekend I had but I'm just not in the mindset to recall relaxation right now. Instead, I will take a cue from my fellow "sufferer or finals" Danielle and write out what I need to do over the next few days. Peek under the cut if you dare...

( Day By Day Breakdown Of This WeekCollapse )

So that's my week. God I'll be happy when it's all over. I'll try and post pics of my finished projects for anyone who's interested. For those that don't know my final projects are as follows. For Typography I had to write a term paper on Matthew Carter (big name typographer) and turn it into a book, complete with spread of his type work. Minimum five spread, which equals ten pages. For Tools class we were given five, two-page PDF's. We are to recreate these PDF's in InDesign to match the originals perfectly. We are to do this by measuring the placement of all the imagery and text and recreating it accordingly. For Illustration I have to do a portrait poster of someone (I'm doing Alice Cooper) that is non-realistic (meaning not like a photo) and with several secondary images that are representative of the person. Math is just a plain old take-home exam. Which is a bit refreshing considering all the other projects. Ok, my eyes are focusing again so back to work. What a refreshing 15minutes this has been...
