I forgot to post about this, but I was accepted into the music dept. at ASU after my audition Friday. They are going to offer me a scholarship, too, but they aren't sure exactly what amount yet.

In other news, I purchased a computer today from Dell. It wasn't completely impromptu, as I've been customizing a few the past couple weeks in order to see the average price (b/c Dell has different offers like every week). I'm going to take it to college with me. Well, today, I saw that they were offering $400 off the system I had been looking at, so I went ahead and purchased it. I won't actually have the cash to pay it off with until graduation, but my parents are going to make the few payments until then. I'm very excited about it, but it won't be until next week (perhaps the week after) that it will arrive.

I borrowed the first season of Pete & Pete from the Springdale Public Library last week and have watched nearly all the episodes. I really enjoy it, much more now than I did when I was younger. I don't think I understood its humor or appeal then.

Sad News... [19 Mar 2006|05:51pm]

Morris Clarkson, the man who played piano at the Northwest Arkansas Mall, died last Thursday at age 83. He was a wonderful man and a very talented pianist.

Rest in peace, Morris.

[ mood | stressed ]

I had auditions at Missouri State Friday. They went well, I think. I messed up my Bach prelude, but I managed to get back on, even if I did have to repeat a couple lines. Anyhow, the Fugue and the Danse went well, and I think I redeemed myself. Afterward, when I was taking my theory test, Dr. Collins, the head of the piano dept., said to my parents that he wanted me there and was going to do all within his power to do so (meaning $$$). I'll take that as an unofficial acceptance. :-D

In other collegiate news, ASU sent me a letter saying that I will receive their highest scholarship. It pays for everything except books, along with a $600/semester stipend, which is enough to purchase books. So, yay for that, if I do end up going there.

This Friday, I audition at ASU. I'm a little scared, because I haven't worked on the Sonata much, and I have to play it in addition to the others for them. I'm going to leave Thursday after school.

And that's that.

College [09 Mar 2006|12:07am]
[ mood | contemplative ]

So, I received a letter today informing me that I did not receive the Presidential Scholarship from Missouri State, which is very unfortunate. I don't know if it's even a possibility to go there without my parents having to make huge sacrifices to pay for it. And, of course, they'd have to do this for 4 years. There's hope, though, that my mother will get the new job she's been after with a nice pay increase, but it doesn't seem like anything will be set in stone for a couple months. I'd really like to go to Missouri State, but I just don't know how it'll happen.

As for ASU, Summer told me some exciting news. Her friend Chad knows the Honors Scholar who was one of my interviewers, and she said that I made a perfect score on my interview! So, logically, it seems that I'll be getting that scholarship, although I can't say that officially. Plus, Dr. Clark (the piano professor) told one of her students who knows Summer that I was very talented, which makes me feel good.

So...the choice is: struggle to pay for a college that I really want to attend OR get paid $1200 a year to go to a college that I'm not particularly fond of.

Oh what a world...

Brief summary of major recent events [05 Mar 2006|07:27pm]
[ mood | nervous ]

Finished the children's play Superfish. It was really fun, but there was a lot of drama between the castmembers. It seems now, though, that much of that has subsided.

I had my scholarship interview at Missouri State last weekend (February 25th). I think it went pretty well, and I feel pretty good about it. However, they will only give the scholarship to 40 people, and there are 182 applicants competing for it. If I don't get the scholarship, I'll have to go to ASU, because we don't have enough money to send me to MSU without it.

Yesterday, I had my scholarship interview at ASU, and I think that it also went well. I had to write an essay too, but it wasn't bad at all. This money isn't necessary, but it would help my parents a lot, because this scholarship pays for everything including a $600 per semester stipend.

Either school would be great to go to, but I'd prefer Missouri State. If I received the scholarship, I'll get a call tomorrow sometime. I'm nervous about it.

wreck, rehearsal, and snow [18 Feb 2006|01:24am]
[ mood | angry ]

So today...er, yesterday, Feb. 17th.

Got in a wreck (my car, thankfully, was not totaled (totalled?), but has some costly damage). Yes, another wreck. This one didn't spin my car, though. I, as always, was not at fault. But this time, it was hit and run. I physically got out of my car and ran after the guy to get a plate alphanumeric, but I unfortunately my feet could not keep up with the speed at which I wanted to run, so I fell down. :-(

However, there is hope. This happened as I was entering the school parking lot, so during 5th, I talked to the school officer. We looked at the cameras, but we couldn't get a license plate number. The wreck itself is on camera, which is great since we have physical evidence. Plus, the officer said that on Tuesday when we return to school, he's going to wait for the car (a beige-ish Lincoln Towncar) at the place where it dropped off the kids inside it, and try to get information from him and see where we go from there. I think that I will wait myself, too, just to see what the officer does and to get a license plate myself. Not a great morning, and it kinda ruined the rest of my day.

Superfish (the children's play) rehearsal was fun today. After the initial run-through(from 7th-3:45), we had another one for Shayla, who was added to the cast today. She is replacing the original "Lee" character, because that girl was not learning her lines and had a HUGE attitude problem. Anyway, during the second run-through, a few people had left, so a lot of us were playing multiple parts. It was very schizophrenic but hilarious.

My cousins and their kids are coming to the night show on Tuesday, February 28th, and I'm very happy about that! I hope that my neice and nephew get to come too, meaning that my sister takes the initiative to take them.

Later, I went to Tiffany's to play board games. I had a lot of fun, but when we got done (at about 12:30), it had been snowing for a long time. So I had to go outside and scrape off my car and drive very slowly home. Thankfully, I only live 5 minutes away (in normal conditions, obviously), so it wasn't too bad.

I'm still upset about the wreck, though. Grrr!

So, yesterday I got contacts. I only could wear them for 3 hours, as instruced by my doctor. Today, I wore them for 6. Tomorrow, I get to wear them for 9. I really like them, but sometimes I can feel the presence of the right one, which isn't cool.

I also got new frames for my glasses. In late December, my temple (the earpiece) on my glasses broke, so the eye clinic ordered a new one. (I managed to get it soldered, and I've been using the soldered piece ever since.) Well, it was supposed to take 3 days to arrive, but then it went on backorder until January 13th. Then, it went on backorder again until February, so the lady at the eye clinic just ordered me new frames, took my old ones, and said that I could keep the new frames at no additional cost if I liked them, which I do. So, I got new frames for $30. However, I probably won't wear my glasses much if I start wearing contacts.

Oh, I also got my Rent tickets yesterday. I'm going on May 31st with Summer. We're sitting on the 2nd to last row on the main floor, though. I wish I could've had front row balcony, but what can you do? It's going to be amazing to see it at all, so I'm not complaining too much. :-D

So, I made 20th chair, 1st band at All-Region tryouts today. It's good, but I don't get to audition for all-state, which is somewhat dissapointing. I'll live, though.

Anyway, yesterday, I went to Missouri State. I really like it. I met with Dr. Collins, who is one of the piano professors there, and he made me feel really comfortable about auditioning, which I'll do March 10th. I'm still going to be a piano major, too, instead of composition like I thought I might do. And I'll be in choir too, which is funny, since I was only in choir for 3 days in 7th grade. Dr. Collins said that it wasn't a big deal, as most piano majors join choir because they can't be in band since they don't play another instrument. I turned in my application for the Presidential Scholarship, which will cover everything cost-wise, except for books. Right now, my entire tuition will be covered, but not room, board, fees, and books, which is still quite a chunk of change.

Anyway, I'm excited about going to Missouri State. I feel like it is unneccessary to audition anywhere else, because anywhere else is unaffordable.

On another note, my throat is in excrutiating pain. My tonsils are inflamed, it seems. I guess I have some sort of infection. Gross. It REALLY hurts to swallow anything, even liquids. Unfortunately, if I don't eat and drink, I'll die.

Today, there was a fire in the lot beside Kent Dobbs's Hyundai. It was exciting. The fire dept. came to put it out. The only property of Kent Dobbs's that was destroyed was part of one fence.

I bought Scene It? TV Edition today. It's a really fun game. :-D

Sometime, I need to practice clarinet all-region music. Auditions are a week from Saturday. ::scared::

Edit: There was a French Scene It? game at the Springdale Walmart. There were 4 actually. I was amazed to see a French game in an Arkansas Walmart. My theory is that they intended to get Spanish, but they couldn't tell the difference. :-D

Well, Senior Showcase is OVER. It's a wonderful feeling. Our evening show went very well. Not as good as the afternoon show but still great. I'm just so proud of the work that everyone did for the show. And I'm especially proud of the work that John and I did. I'm just so happy that it's finally over and that we had two successful shows. :-D

And my only final left is French, on Monday. I'm happy about that too!

Summer's play was very good.

We found DDR: Mario Mix at Target in Jonesboro. I received it yesterday as an early Christmas present (as it has been discontinued and is hard to find).

Had my last Christmas piano ensemble tonight. It was exciting. Plus, I made $24 because Mr. Button asked me to work backstage since I was already going to be there anyway. So, I sat backstage the entire show with a headseat, until my groups played. Very easy money. :-D

Today was good overall, except that, while leaving school to take Tiffany, Aaron, Johanna, and Shayla home, I was backed into by an SUV in the band parking lot. Not fun. The damage isn't too noticable, but it two side panels need to be replaced, and it seems that it jostled the hood too, which will probably need to be replaced as well. Anyhow, I called my dad, then the police. It wasn't until about 3:50 or so until we got to leave. The cop was really nice, though, and my dad had come down to the school to check out my car. The other driver didn't have her license, just a permit. She wasn't ticketed, however, because she wasn't driving on a road at the time. He told her, however, that if she left driving, he'd pull her over. Not much else exciting that happened, really.

I made a 30 composite on the ACT!

  • Usage/Mechanics: 18
  • (Change: +0)
  • Rhetorical Skills: 17
  • (Change: +2)
Mathematics: 28 (Change: +1)
  • Pre-Algebra/Elem. Alg.: 16
  • (Change: -1)
  • Alg./Coord. Geometry: 16
  • (Change: +2)
  • Plane Geometry/Trig.: 13
  • (Change: +3)
Reading: 29 (Change: +4)
  • Soc. Studies/Sciences: 14
  • (Change: -1)
  • Arts/Literature: 16
  • (Change: +6)

Composite: 30 (Change: +1)

I'm very happy now, because it'll help me get different scholarships at various schools. At OCU, for example, I'll get $4,000 more dollars, so that's exciting. :-D

I'm happy!
