Bar Prep

I realize my LJ audience is dwindling but it is still relatively useful to get information out.

A couple of folks have very generously offered to bring me food, or help out in other ways - it occurred to me that it might be helpful to let you know how to do that, and what I need:

First, the earlier you let me know you want to help, the better, like the day *before* - I am generally out of the house all day, either studying, or at bar prep class - and am home for a small window approx 4:15 - 5:45 - but am out running for part of that.  I only check my messages a few times a day, and try not to use the internet while I am studying.
  • I am at the USF library from 8:30 - 4:00pm (on occassion, the UCSF library)
  • I try to break for lunch around 12:00 - you can drop off or have lunch with me there...
  • I am at GGU from 6:00 - 10:00 pm...(waiting on Mission street with my motorcycle to wait for free parking from 5:55 - 6:00 - in case you wanna drive by and throw me a bone...)
  • Doublejack is home at approximately 7pm - but he usually knows where I am and is pretty reachable by email or text...(preferred, I think
  •

I do like food - anything prepared, of the "grab and go" variety. I eat breakfast at home, but take both lunch and dinner with me...or buy dinner at school.

Foods I like:
Cut vegetables - crunchy and healthy, it takes me time to cut 'em up if you do it, it saves me time
Tupperware full of chili, lentils, soupy things...or pasta, lasagna, you know, anything I can nuke in the school microwave
baked treats.  Muffins, cupcakes, cookies - treats...something to reward myself with when I am out of it.

Also - help comes in the form of well-wishes.  I can always buy food - my challenge with it, is that I try to eat healthy, and that's hard to do on the fly - but the bar comes first - so I am willing to go that route - BUT knowing that you are thinking about me is the most helpful thing...an email or a phone message, or an offer to drag me away for a drink at some point is SOOOOO valuable to me - even if you don't get a response right away, know that I love knowing I still have friends and by going into (even more) seclusion I will not lose you.

I started bar prep class this week - and it has finally slapped me in the face. I have *a lot* of work to do to prepare for this thing. Seriously - I will require 10 hour days of studying if I am to make it. SO please don't forget about me.

I will not be calling or emailing you to make plans - even though I want to. I won't be bringing you dinner or asking you to meet me at a bar. If you are in the hospital, I will probably visit you, but not if lots of other people are there, and you don't specifically need me. I won't be going to your fundraiser, your march on city hall, your knit nights, your birthday party your hootennany or your bark-mitzvah.

But that doesn't mean I am completely unavailable - I am hoping to take a day off per week and do something relaxing. It might be staying in bed all day with a novel - it might be going for a hike.

All this is to say - don't give up on me. I want to see folks, and I wanna hear your voices. When I am not in my bar prep class (6-10 pm) I will be at the library (8-3:30pm). SO if you call me, I will likely have my phone off - or down low. I'll try to call you back when I take my lunch break at 12:00...but if I don't call you back - don't take it personal - I am in the groove and need to stay focused.

At the very least - Doublejack should know where I am . ;-)

Just so you know what I am up against,
I have to memorize and be able to apply the laws of the following subjects:
Criminal law
Criminal procedure
Torts
Constitutional Law
Contracts
Evidence
Community Property
Real Property
Civil Procedure
Corporations
Business Associations
Remedies
Wills
Trusts

Both the California and the Federal law. I kinda don't know how I am going to do it - but lesser mortals than I have done it - so I guess I can too.

Anyway - I have ignored you for the last four years - be patient with me - I will only ignore you for another couple months...Thank you.
That is all.

Watchmen

Doublejack treated me to an opening day screening of Watchmen at the Kabuki (cocktail included) last night...

Here is my conclusion first; excellent. Extremely well-done. Incredibly true to the graphic novel - Amazing adaptation.

I read Watchmen my freshman year in college - it was the first graphic novel I have ever read, and after that, I was always "chasing the dragon," trying to find something that was so beautifully written, drawn, and thought provoking. I was only 18, and not very precocious - I had never read anything that so blatantly confronts the dark side as an inextricable part of the light.

While the film could not possibly hold as much intensity for me as the graphic novel - I am (gulp) 20 years older, and 20 years more in touch with my dark side...It was a visual feast - framed in comic book style, without being cartoonish. I feel that many comic book adaptions often have that glitzy campy edge of Batman "Pow!" - which Watchmen had none of.

Brilliant.

38 year old sucker for the cute

Gmail now allows you to pick themes for your mail page. I picked this cute tea house theme. Not only does it change from day to night as day actually changes to night - the characters on the page actually change activities.

Yesterday, this adorable fox was making tea in the tea house. Today he is playing flute for the ducks. I am totally enthralled.

And yes, I am a law student.

Support for the Barack Obama Pumpkin!!

My Carve the Vote Pumkin began to sag along the "Horizon Lines", decomposition being what it is. I threaded some wire through the sagging parts and gave it a bit of a "face lift." It will continue to decompose, but hopefully, it will buy the Barack O'Lantern a little more time.
