Ratcliffe takes charge of U.S. Attorney's office The Enterprise John Ratcliffe, who was ushered in Monday as acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, will learn this summer if he's a finalist to permanently replace outgoing U.S. Attorney Matt Orwig. Ratcliffe was the first assistant under Orwig, who announced in April he was leaving for private practice in Dallas, two years before his appointment's expiration. Applicants for Orwig's job, including Ratcliffe, will interview before the Federal Judicial Evaluation committee later this month. Finalists will meet with Republican senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, a spokesman in Cornyn's office said by phone Monday. The two senators will make a recommendation for the new Eastern District U.S. Attorney to the White House, which will set the timetable for appointment and confirmation hearings, according to Cornyn's office.
