I THE first station the Greater Miami area to broadcast exby FM (frequency modclusively' ulation) will the air Dec. 1. go are WLRD. new station, powered will oll 93.9 megacycles, channel 230, daily from 2:30 to 11:15 p. m. Station WLRD has been built and 1S owned and operated by Alan Rosenson. Studios are the Mercantile National bank building, Lincoln rd. and Washington ave., Miami Beach. The transmitter is located on South Beach. The Lincoln rd. studios are fully equipped for program presentations with remote con• trol facilities permitting broadcasts from outside points. Live shows as well as tran- scribed features and recordings are to be included in the broadcasts of music. news, drama, educational and variety offerings. SIMMONS ON STAFF Marshall Simmons, for several vears identified with radio in Miami, is joining the staff of the new FM station as program director. Douglas J. Kamp, who left the Milwaukee Journal's radio affiliate before the war to open a television department for Douglas Leigh, Inc., in New York, commercial and promotion manager. Rosenson, probably the young. est builder and of radio station in the country, attended University of Miami and worked in the Northeast as an industrial Uniand [engineer in radio. His construction permit was granted in 1947. FORMER "HAM" Prior to he received license 1946 and as a "ham" reports contact with Europe, South America, Africa and New Zealand. Through his "ham"* telephone hook-up he has made it possible for GI's in distant points to converse with their families in this area, he reveals. A recording of his transmissions describing this year's hurricane over his amateur set, which he kept in readiness in event of failure of wire communications, was used on a national network news broadcast. Rosenson says.
