A's prospects thrive Michael Jordan received most of the attention, but A's prospects enjoyed the most success when their Peoria Javelinas won the Arizona Fall League championship last weekend with a two-game sweep of the Mesa Saguaros. Right-hander Stacy Hollins arguably had the best season of any AFL participant. He was 7-1 with a 2.38 earned-run average, posted 37 strikeouts in 45⅓ innings and limited batters to a .194 average while setting a league record for wins. And those numbers don't include a playoff win. Hollins yielded four hits in six shutout innings as Peoria won Game 1 of the championship series. Counting his 13-6 record at Class-A Modesto, Hollins was a 20-game winner in merely 31 starts this year. Fellow right-hander Don Wengert, who was a combined 10-5 at Double-A Huntsville (Ala.) and Modesto this summer, continued his success in Arizona, going 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA and two saves.
