Critics Consensus

Instead of being light and charming, this romantic comedy is heavy-handed and contrived in its execution. Also, it's too unoriginal.

Watching it now with grown up eyes, it’s not very good. Eddy is a d-bag. Engaged and flirting shamelessly, “Maybe I was just being a guy” with Mary? Not to mention the way he talks to her, the way she fawns over him just for paying attention to her… the misogyny of the film is so thick it’s hard to see through. Mary, a single, boring, miserable woman looking for love (despite having an incredibly successful career), and Eddy, the engaged but still shopping successful doctor. It’s just frustrating seeing this spooned to the masses when we know single women are among the happiest demographic there is. My rose colored glasses are off. And it’s just not a good film.
