ABOUT MARO
Maro Itoje has established himself as one of the leading players in world rugby, enjoying outstanding success at both club and international level while becoming one of the game’s most respected leaders.
A product of the Saracens Academy, the second row, who is also capable of playing on the flank, made his first-team debut in January 2013 in the LV= Cup. Since then, he has become a cornerstone of the Men in Black, winning five Premiership titles and three European Champions Cups, alongside helping the club secure the RFU Championship title in 2021.
Itoje’s international career has been equally impressive. After captaining England U20 to the World Rugby U20 Championship title in 2014, he made his senior England debut during the 2016 Six Nations, helping the side secure a Grand Slam. He has since earned more than 100 England caps, becoming a central figure in the national side and captaining his country from 2025.
In 2025, Itoje reached another significant milestone when he was appointed captain of the British & Irish Lions for their tour of Australia. On his third Lions tour, having previously represented the side in 2017 and 2021, he led the team to a memorable series victory over the Wallabies, starting all three Tests. His performances and leadership cemented his place among the most accomplished players of his generation.
His individual honours include being named European Player of the Year in 2016 and Lions Player of the Series following the 2021 tour of South Africa. He has also been nominated for World Rugby Player of the Year on three occasions.
In 2026, Itoje continued to lead England, captaining the side during the Six Nations Championship and remaining a key figure for Saracens. His influence extends beyond the pitch, with a commitment to education, equality and creating opportunities for young people through his philanthropic work.
