Utility-scale solar PV capacity in Spain 2010-2024

Spain’s installed utility-scale solar photovoltaic power capacity has seen a great increase over the last few years. In 2024, the installed solar PV capacity in the Mediterranean country surpassed ** megawatts, a growth of roughly ** percent in comparison to the previous year. 

The Spanish renewables sector

Spain’s renewable energy generation is dominated by renewables, which accounted for ** percent of the electricity mix in 2024. With the target to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the country is set on the expansion of renewable sources – particularly solar and wind – to ensure a smooth transition. Accordingly, renewable energy consumption in the European country has been on an upward trend over the last few years.

Solar energy outlook in Spain

Following Spain’s climate targets, the generation capacity of solar energy in the country is estimated to undergo significant growth over the next years. Due to a decrease in the cost of solar technologies, the market has become more competitive. Likewise, self-consumption of solar PV energy in the Mediterranean country is also forecast to grow over the upcoming years, with the Community of Madrid, Andalusia, and Catalonia taking the lead.
