MINNEAPOLIS -- Three pitchers combined on a five-hitter and Bo Jackson drove in the only run with a sixth-inning single, lifting the Kansas City Royals to a 1-0 victory over Minnesota Twins.
Steve Farr, 11-7, allowed four hits over seven innings.
Steve Crawford allowed one hit in the eighth and Jeff Montgomery finished for his 20th save.
'I probably prefer to stay in the bullpen,' said Farr who was making just his fourth game of the season. 'I like to be able to get in every other game, every third game or so. I'm not sure if I could be this effective if I was throwing 200 innings a season.'
'You almost hate to start him because he's so valuable out of the bullpen,' said Royals' skipper John Wathan. 'But no doubt about it, he certainly could be a starter on this team.'
With one out in the sixth, Gary Thurman singled off rookie Larry Casian, 0-1. Jeff Conine's first major league hit sent Thurman to third. Jackson, playing in left field for the first time since being injured Sept. 1, singled to center to score Thurman, who finished with a career- high three hits.
'Casian did a super job, just outstanding,' said Twins' Manager Tom Kelly. 'It was a shame we couldn't get a run or two for him tonight.'
The loss was the fourth straight for the Twins and their seventh in eight games.
