Nvidia says that Google has solved the issue and the YouTube and YouTube TV app should now be working again on the Nvidia Shield TV Pro and the Nvidia Shield. Are you still encountering the problem? Let us know in the comments.
The original story can be found below:
The YouTube and YouTube TV apps have suddenly stopped working on the Nvidia Shield TV and Shield TV Pro.
Reports first started appearing on Reddit and Nvidia's official forums, with affected users stating that they see an error that reads, "YouTube TV is not supported on this device" whenever they launch the YouTube or YouTube TV app (via 9to5Google). In a recent forum post, a Nvidia spokesperson wrote that Google is aware of the issue and that a fix is being worked on.
There doesn't currently seem to be a way to get around the issue, so if the Nvidia Shield TV is your main streaming device, and you watch a lot of YouTube, you're out of luck for now. It's also unclear what's causing the problem, though there are reports that Google has dropped support for the Nvidia Shield TV Pro. However, Google hasn't made a public statement to indicate this is the case. Making the situation more confusing, other reports indicate that this problem is only affecting some users.
XDA has reached out to Nvidia for comment. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
The Nvidia Shield is often viewed as viable alternative to the Apple TV 4K
It's been a few years since its hardware has been refreshed
While I've personally never used the Nvidia Shield TV Pro, it's often cited as the best streaming device out there, thanks to its powerful Nvidia Tegra X1+ chip, 3GB of RAM, and compatibility with GeForce Now, Nvidia's game streaming platform, alongside other high-end features like Dolby Vision HDR support.
That said, it's been over five years since the streaming device has received a hardware refresh. That said, it's possible that 2026 could finally be the year Nvidia updates its steaming set-top box's hardware. This also makes sense given an Apple TV 4K refresh has been looming for several months now and is rumored to finally drop early next year.
