So it's been a while....

Once again it has been a long time since I have posted here. I'm not even really gonna post a whole lot right now. I just wanted to let every one know that I have a new journal that I am posting in much more frequently these days. It's a journal for our daughter Ceilidh. I'll still post here from time to time definitely, but these days most of what I want to write about concerns her so if you are interested check her journal out at ceilidh3. It's friends only so just post a comment on the opening entry and I'll make sure you get added. I would have posted a link to her journal much earlier but things have been very crazy. Ceilidh came rather unexpectedly and was born 3 1/2 months premature! We were were expecting her in January around my birthday, but instead she came in October around her daddy's birthday. As you can imagine it was a very scary at traumatic time for us. Ceilidh had to be immediately flown by helicopter to a special children's hospital just as soon as she was born. She had to stay in the hospital for just over 3 months receiving intensive care. She's doing very well though and now we are finally home. We are settling into our new life as a family and loving every moment of it.

I was really excited about it, but also nervous. I've always been kind of a worrier but since becoming pregnant it's become a 10 times works I think. Even so I don't think I had really realized just how much I had been worried about this appointment until after it was all over with. I was so elated to find out that everything was completely normal and just as it should be. Jack and my mom came with me to the appointment and it was so special to share this with them. Jack held my hand as they did the ultrasound and we all just sat in silence while she showed us each part of our new little baby. It was simply amazing. We got to see it moving around and stretching. I'm not sure it liked all the poking and prodding, Lol. Of course we also got to see and hear the heart beating again. They even gave us a video of the ultrasound but unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out how to convert the dvd files to files I can post online, but grandparents need not worry we have made extra copies to send out to those who couldn't be with us.
Jack and I were out working in the yard today when it started to rain. We put away our tools and started to head inside for some lunch when Jack said, "Hey let's go for a walk?" My immediate response was, "What now??? It's raining. No." Then I thought to myself why am I saying this? I would totally love a walk in the rain. It would be loads of fun. I guess I just said no because some how I felt that that is what I was supposed to say. So it didn't take too much convincing. Jack said, "ah come on.," and I agreed. It was a lovely walk and we laughed all along the way as we were getting drenched. I'm sure our neighbors think we are totally crazy, but I don't care. We really need to do that kind of thing more often.

Marengo Cave

Yeah I know....it's been way too long since I have last written. Work is just keeping me way too stressed and busy. At this point I'm just trying to survive until the end of the year. It's been a rough work year, but this is enough talk about that. It's a much needed Spring Break, and I need to not think about work any more. Yesterday Jack and I decided we needed to get out of the house so we decided to go to Marengo cave. Marengo cave is about an hour south of us in the middle of nowhere. It was a beautiful day and we drove through backroads with the windows open. It was lovely. When we got there we decided to splurge and go on both tours. You got a slight discount if you did both tours and it was so worth it. It was truly and awesome sight to see.

The Pipe Organ

It made me a little sad to see such an incredible sight like this tamed with paved walkways, handrails, and light switches on the walls so each section can be viewed by all the tourists (myself included). Of course without those things the beauty of this place would be restricted to the rare few who would come to this place with out such comforts. I don't know if that is good or bad but it made me feel a little sad nonetheless. They do offer some more down and dirty tours for those who want to experience the cave in a more adventurous fashion. Cave crawls are what they are called and Jack is really wanting to go on one. They require as you would imagine getting down and dirty, crawling through the mud and water on your hands and knees, and even your belly at times. You leave the safety of the cement pathways to see some of the deeper beauty of the lower levels of the cave system which our tour guide assured us is quite spectacular. I must admit I too am intrigued by the thought of this, but am also terrified. I have a great fear of being trapped in tight spaces. I'm afraid I might panic in such a situation where I would be crawling through a tight space and hyperventilate or even pass out! Does this mean I won't do it? Well....I've never been one to let me fears get in the way of something I feel will be an incredible experience. So I probably will, but I'm really going to have to steel my nerves, and psyche myself up for it.

These are a very rare cave formation called "Shields" they require just the right pressure, soft minerals and angle of water flow to create.

Wall of Columns

This is where an ancient river used to flow that helped form the cave system.
It's official....

we are now the crazy cat people. Welcome the new addition to the Dalphin household. Introducing BOO!

I never wanted to have more than 3 cats. I always said three was my limit, but how can you say no to a 5 week old kitten whose been tossed out of car, abandoned on the side of the road, and is deaf! My heart couldn't handle it, so now we have a fourth. She was nothing but skin and bones when we got her, and she was covered in motor oil. My mom was actually the one to find her. She and her brother had been dumped near the end of their driveway, left alone in the cold to die. Well of course she had to take them in. That morning she had been on the way to meet Jack and I for Breakfast so she took them home for my brother to care for until she could take them to the pound. She told us about them over breakfast and I am sure she was hoping we'd take one. She suspected the one was deaf because it didn't respond to any sort of auditory stimulus and apparently it is somewhat common for white cats with blue eyes to be deaf. Well I couldn't stand it. I was afraid no one would adopt a little deaf kitten, especially with the pound overflowing with tons of cats this time of year. So after talking about it all day Jack and I decided to take her. I was hoping if we took one of them my mother would just decide to keep the other one. Sure enough by the time she had gotten home my brother was so attached to them that they just had to keep the other one. Anyway, she is as sweet as can be. We took her to the vet and had her checked out. She's healthy, and most definitely deaf. So now we are learning how to care for a deaf kitty. She likes to be near us at all times because of it. Sometimes when she meows she doesn't make a sound at all and sometimes she's super loud because she can't gage the volume of her voice. It's really cute. The cool thing is she doesn't get spooked by loud noises so when we gave her, her first bath we were able to blow dry her fur with the hair dryer. She actually really enjoyed the warm air.

<img src="https://imgprx.livejournal.net/d7893a907c0980434f671ecab47d373eab8708a835f357117ed6fa220a17bf0e/P2WlxyVijxKugWhq_8pTUEMdsf-ah7h03EqMCucBwdPX_VbWgNu_Bk8yTkR4EwJwpVFQiC6RdhBAD0Fdzlch-lIOmXjcPaaF6FxRsR11ZR7tAeSc-8xdjiAB70QkMzJIohrppTYLJth3Sio:IhlovqKLzUu2ItNX3iv9RQ"
White Truck.... now that's class. ;)

Well, yesterday was the annual Scottish Festival in columbus. We started going to it a few years ago and it is always a good time. Lot's of fun scottish things to look at, and lots of great music. I was a little disappointed that the Caledonian Kitchen wasn't there this year though. I was really hoping to pick up some more veggie haggis. Yes, you can get vegetarian haggis and it is awesome. Oh well. We got to listen to some great bands including my dad's pipe band, Southern Indiana Pipe and drums.

This a video of my dad's band. They pipers are standing in a circle and he is the one on the opposite side of the circle facing the camera. They really do a great job and it is so cool to watch them. It's kind of fun to be with the band too. ;)

After the festival we went to the evening Ceildh which in Scotland is usually a wild party with lots of drinking, music, and dancing. In america it is more of a sit down affair, although there was one English woman who was doing her best to get every one into the partying mood. She came to our table at one point and asked us if we wanted to buy a bottle of wine for our table. We decided to go for it but I guess we should have asked what kind of wine before purchasing because we ended up getting a bottle of White Truck Wine, and four plastic cups for 18 bucks. I suppose it wasn't terrible wine. It especially got better after the first glass, and we certainly got a good laugh out of it.

Later on in the evening the English woman became quite drunk and kept coming around trying to get us to drink more and come out and dance. Unfortunately, she was the only one besides the kids in the audience who really got up and danced. She was having a blast though, and we were having fun just watching her go crazy.

Introducing.... Gaz the Spaz!

Only jakothewoods and I could impulse by a cat. Yes, we have a new member of the household and her name is Gaz. She's a three month old buff colored fluff ball. In fact she almost looks pink. Anyway she's a little spaz and a total purr-bot. She is very sweet natured and has totally made herself right at home already. She was not intimidated by the two older cats who kept hissing at her at all. She is quite excited to play with them, but I think it is going to take them a while yet to warm up to her.

Actually she wasn't too much of an impulse buy we had been seriously talking about getting a third cat for a while now. Although we were going to wait till next month for various reasons and we were going to go to the pound to adopt. However, Jack says he knew that when he suggested going into Petsmart today that he knew we'd be coming home with a kitten. I'm not sure if I believe him or not, but when we saw Gaz we both knew she was the one. After losing Ophelia last October I didn't want another kitten for a long time, even though the house felt so empty after she was gone. Noone will ever replace Ophelia. Finally, though I was ready. I'm glad we waited for a while, but we really are a three cat household and I think it was time to give a home to another kitten.

Why is it that this video makes me so happy? It doesn't matter how bad of a mood I might be in this video always makes me smile and giggle.

I've seen this before, but I stumbled across it again on YouTube and had to post it. Now there are all kinds of imitation Numa Numa dancers out there making complete asses out of themselves on the internet and enjoying ever minute of it. It's awesome. Just do a search for "Numa Numa" on YouTube. It makes you realize what strange and interesting creatures we really are. BTW.. I promise I won't go nuts on posting videos but there are so many good ones out there.
