Gaming works as good as it will on Linux, needing less config work than Windows (given the NVidia driver is already there). Really everything is perfectly laid out for you as a gamer. Via flatpak integration you also get everything you might need for different other workflows. Tinkering with the OS is out of scope and you'll notice that if you try. The OS downloading its updates automatically in the background might have some impact on internet speeds on some days. Otherwise, just doing everyday gaming and work is flawless. It is a great base with solid defaults, strong built-in features and apps, and it is especially awesome for gamers. I run it on my Asus ROG Ally and genuinely enjoy it. For anyone new to Linux who mainly wants to have fun with their computer, Bazzite is a no-brainer. What stands out is how complete the gaming story is out of the box. You do not have to assemble Steam, controllers, performance tweaks, and handheld quirks yourself. Bazzite already leans into that use case. Performance has been great on my Ally, and the built-in hardware support for handhelds makes a real difference. That is the difference between "Linux can game if you fight it" and "Linux is ready for gaming tonight." I also like that it still feels like a serious system underneath, not a toy overlay. The base is solid. Features and apps that matter for entertainment and day-to-day use are already there. That combination is rare: beginner-friendly for fun, but good enough that experienced users do not feel boxed in. Pros: Excellent for gamers and Linux newcomers who want fun first; strong out-of-the-box gaming stack; great performance on handheld hardware like the Asus ROG Ally; solid base and built-in features; low friction compared with assembling a gaming Linux setup yourself. Cons: If your priority is a minimal server or a highly customized tiling desktop, this is not the first pick; some people may still prefer a more general-purpose Fedora or immutable desktop for non-gaming work; handheld-focused polish can mean more opinionated defaults than a blank slate distro. Yes No Version: 44.20260802 Rating: 10 Date: 2026-09-01 Country: Pakistan Votes: 6 Bazzite is probably the best introduction to Linux for beginners, intermediate users and even experts. It's immutable so It's hard to break. It comes pre-packaged with everything you'd need for gaming. Optionally a bunch of stuff like Davinci Resolve, Lossless Scaling etc are available as Ujust commands or simple button presses in Bazzite portal. After trying a bunch of different Linux Distributions across many years (as a veteran windows user), Bazzite is the only one that has truly kept me in. I have completely switched off of Windows now and use Linux for gaming, watching my media, working for my job and Bazzite is the only reason this has been possible. My final thoughts are that if you're primarily a gamer, this distro is perfect for you. If you're someone who uses their PC for work, it's perfectly practical too despite it's immutable nature. You cannot just install something from rpm, but you can create a container that contains all of your development tools and write, build, debug your projects in the container. This is what I personally do and it's a flawless experience. It also has a bonus separation of concerns cause the core system is unaffected by whatever you do or install in the containers.
