I'm an IT analyst for over 25yrs and have been using Linux in general for about 30yrs now. COMPATIBILITY/STABILITY For home usage I always try different versions of the OS to see how things have grown and developed over the years. I've personally have fallen in love with Maple Linux. It's hit that sweet spot of stability, security and out of box usefulness. For testing I've ran it on anything from an old Acer laptop from 2009 (Athlon XP w/4GB RAM) to a modern 2025 business class desktop (Intel i7-8700T w/32GB RAM) and have had no compatibility issues with the hardware too... it just works. GAMING For gaming I even tried stress testing on each variation of hardware I have with Heroic Games Launcher running the Proton Windows Emulation layer for games on a business class desktop and found I'm getting better resolutions in AAA games like "Rocket League" whereas it would chop out and struggle to run in an equivalent Windows environment. The X11 environment with Cinnamon is that right mix it seems. YOU'RE IN CHARGE With any variant of Linux you can always tweak here and there to your liking. Out of box though this is a OS I would feel comfortable installing on any family member's systems. The fact it matches with EU privacy requirements... *chefs kiss*... it brought on a wave of nostalgia. You're actually in full control of your system again. A feeling I haven't experienced in Windows from 2007 -> present. Nothing popping up and trying to sell you anything from a store, suggestions of services or apps. You are the lone person in control and it's visually quiet. PRIVACY CENTRIC; This paired with CIRA's "Canadian Shield" DNS services would reduce a LOT of risk online for those more vulnerable online. As mentioned you are still in control so you can install other software as you'd like. This allows you to customize how much or how little you have a presence/exposure you'd have online. ONLINE SERVICE INTEGRATION If you are looking for online services integration you can sign up for a free "Proton.me" account as an alternative to any US vendor. Few may know this but the moment any of your internet traffic passes the border into another country (such as the US) it's subject to capture, copy and review. Proton is encryption centric. Maple Linux's Firefox ESR allows for Proton integration with little configuration so you can keep on the privacy bandwagon (Proton is from Switzerland). INSTALLATION EASE & TESTING I appreciate the efforts put in to this OS. We've not seen anything tech wise this great since the rise of Blackberry. So it's even more special it's largely developed from Ontario. As a Canadian myself I do imagine I'm subject to some level of unconscious bias but also try out 2-3 other distributions a week so believe I would have arrived to the same conclusion anyways. When in doubt I'd encourage testing for yourself. Opinions are wonderful but with anything in life you should prove it for yourself. Anyone can create a "Live USB" so you can test without committing to installation. *Just remember you're only as good as your weakest part. So if USB/DVD read speeds are slow, so too will be your experience* Install times; Newer systems = 10->15min, Older than 2015 = 15->45min... just give it time and be patient. My main linux is Debian+Cinamon. I wanted to install Debian 13 on the second half of a hard drive on my Laptop to be able to move my stuff from the Debian 12 I've been using for a while. I was not able to install Debian 13 from the live version because the installation would freeze while trying to split the drive in 2 partions. While looking for a distro to install as a secondery linux on my laptop I found Maple and decided to try it. It installed without problems after partitioning the drive contrary to the Debian 13 I was trying to install. So it confirmed that the freezing problem was not coming from my drive but from the Debian live I was using... strange... Anyway, I am now using Maple instead of Debian and I feel at home with it. The pros are that it looks stable and fast and works like a charm, The cons would be, for some people, that there are less apps that come installed, but it is a pro for me because I can install the apps I really need in my system... And some of them are not in the libraries anyway, like Master Pdf Editor that I use a lot. In the end, the fact that they don't try to add a ton of apps but instead prefer to offer a stable version of Linux is a nice thing... Oh... of course I'm glad it's Canadian but it needed to be a good product first 👍 Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 1.3.5.1 Rating: 8 Date: 2026-02-01 Votes: 2 A pesar de que tiene el escritorio Cinamon es una distro que va bastante fluida en equipos de bajos recursos, tiene todo lo que puedes encontrar en Linux Mint pero me parece que está muy bien optimizada, me gustaria que lanzen mas versiones con escritorios livianos como XFCE, estoy seguro que con un escritorio mas liviano esta distro seria perfecta para equipos de bajos recursos. Me gusta que trae la opcion para usarla en X11 y tambien en Wayland, otro detalle es que deberian incluir mas drivers para laptops con WiFi con tarjetas Broadcom, pero en general me parece una buena distro que todos deberian probar Was this review helpful?
