Ive ran it on a spare machine since the quattro release, and I do have some thoughts - both good and not so good. I do feel it's a fast, simple, way for new folks getting into linux to try it relatively friction free. It installs quickly due to the very large iso pulling most of the weight, instead of downloading a chunk like many other installers. It focuses on some programs that ai bros and folks in tech will like being pre-installed out of the box for the most part - I think for them it's a great way to get set up quickly, however for others, it's a bit on the annoying side Luckily, they do give a great option to choose not to install most of those programs, or remove them if you've already added them. The downside is that I don't exactly agree that Arch was a great choice for this setup, as it can very easily break all of these AI plugins people have vibe coded. I love Arch, but it's a bleeding edge rolling release, which gives the impression and feeling at times that this distro is held together by vibe coded chicken wire. I've seen plenty of newbies try this out and not know what to do, as it breaks and they've never had to use Arch before. Aside from that it's.... fine? It's another arch distro with a focus on ai and tech focused setups, but hyprland isn't something I exactly agree with as a beginner setup, so personally would say this is more directed at slightly more experienced folks looking for a switch. I will absolutely add though that omarchy isn't really new or groundbreaking as the kids falling for the hype would lead you to believe. There are plenty of distros out there that will let you install a tiling manager by default, and plenty of pre-made hyprland setups to easily install. Please do not fall for the false hype that it's accomplishing something brand new, or it's some sort of completely new way to use a PC. It isn't - and that's ok, I just wish *they* were ok with acknowledging that. Omarchy cult members will use the same tired old argument that everyone is saying 'its not a distro' and whatever tired, rehashed stuff they spew out, but at the end of the day, it offers very little new, and would go even further as to say its ai focused 'just let claude fix the problem' is more detrimental than beneficial. Users aren't learning how to use their computer, they're just paying a fee to let AI do it, and I don't see how people don't think of that as anything other than depressing. I'm not anti ai at all personally, but folks need to understand how to use what they're on. Thats like giving someone a car with autopilot even if they dont know how to drive - might be ok for a little bit, but sooner or later you're in trouble. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 4.0.4 Rating: 9 Date: 2026-09-21 Country: France Votes: 3 I've been a Linux user since 2001, and after experimenting with different Linux distributions and desktop environments over the years, I recently moved through CachyOS before discovering Omarchy. And I have to say, this distribution pleasantly surprised me. Based on Arch, Hyprland, and Quickshell, Omarchy delivers a modern, fast, smooth, and above all extremely coherent desktop experience. After years of configuring my own Linux environments, I particularly appreciate this approach: you get a complete and polished desktop right from the start, while still keeping a great deal of freedom to customize it. Its keyboard-first approach, tiling workflow, theming system, and overall integration really give the impression of using a desktop designed as a whole rather than as a collection of separate components. Omarchy itself describes the system as centered around keyboard-driven navigation, tiling, and a tightly integrated desktop. After 25 years of Linux, I'm still curious about discovering new ways of using my system. And lately, Omarchy has been one of those discoveries that makes me want to rethink the way I use my desktop. For anyone who enjoys Arch, Hyprland, customization, and a modern environment without having to build everything from scratch, Omarchy is definitely worth trying. Was this review helpful? Yes No Version: 4.0.4 Rating: 10 Date: 2026-09-20 Country: United States Votes: 5 With respect to the release of Omarchy Quattro (4.0.0+), this Linux system has become the most modern forward looking combination of dot-files that currently exists in the ecosystem. Yes, dot-files. I don't mean that in a negative way. Omarchy has overcome many of its criticisms over the last year and has addressed them head-on. From using "a bunch of bash scripts", to "it's just AI slop, to "it's just dot-files". If so, why does Omarchy Quattro caused so much noise with all who which to see it fail? I thought the goal was to get more people into the Linux Desktop; which includes welcoming people of all kinds and backgrounds. But I guess if you're not fitting in specific niches that the gate-keeps uphold, you cannot fit in. Too bad Linux is FREE and OPEN SOURCED. You do not get to choose who uses it nor how. Now that DHH has fully embraced the obvious he and his team has gone full-speed ahead at engaging in the "malleable" computing operating system where AI Agents give the user total control of THEIR systems and the masses took notice. From the time of this writing Omarchy is gain massive adoption and traction. The Quattro version has been downloaded over 300,000 times in the last month alone and Omarchy has be super charged with over $16 million in pledges toward expanding upon DHH's vision of fun computing Linux desktop systems that are powered by another $2.5 million worth of frontier AI Agent tokens. Incredible. Absolutely incredible. I have been with Omarchy for about a year and a half and I could not be more proud and satisfied with the progress I have seen this system go though; in fact the rate of progress has been extremely gratifying to experience. I am "dual-booting" and completely forgot I even have Windows installed on a separate 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD. And I believe it's about time to reclaim that disk space for more resources for Omarchy, Arch Linux, with Hyprland and QuickShell. Was this review helpful?
