SlyOS is a lightweight, user-friendly Linux distribution based on Artix Linux and featuring a customised desktop derived from the niri compositor. It uses OpenRC as the init system, long-term supported CachyOS Linux kernel, Calamares system installer, ReGreet login manager, and a tailored control centre. The distribution ships with a number of web, productivity and multimedia applications, including LibreWolf web browser, Gimp and Inkscape graphics editors, and mpv video player.

 Great distro! Never tried Artix , maybe it is as good as this one as far as init system goes & I usually stay away from non-systemd distros because I can't use all my flatpaks, but here ALL of them work, some of them need a little tinkering but that's on me (need to configure mesa because my PC is old), but every single piece of software I need I can use it & OpenRC is lean like no other.

I installed Niri Minimal version & it's surprisingly both minimal indeed but super functional out of the box, looks great, idles ~500Mb (& pretty sure I can make it leaner) which is awesome for my old PC.

All the extra work they've put on making sure flatpaks work great puts this distro on another level, also they did great with theming, even better than XFCE where I need to force dark theme for some apps are still showing light, also since I use vertical monitors, this 1 was not only 1 toggle to set but also the distro that has better understood my screens, literally I don't have to manually fix anything for once.

Pretty impressed, if you want Arch+Niri+Super_Lean distros that are ven compatible with old software, this is the 1 you are looking for.

BTW since my PC is OLD I was naver able to install Cachy for their kernel is way too customized for newer hardware, but somehow with SlyOS I have Cachy's kernel now. In short, there are many things that I was expecting to fail, but everything worked out of the box somehow.
