CaNOP (Canopy Near-IR Observing Project) is a science Investigation mission by the Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin to develop a 3U CubeSat-based remote sensing platform for performing multispectral imaging of global forests to help understand large-scale biomass production and carbon uptake in both mature and harvested forests.
The CaNOP science mission is to obtain medium-resolution images of global forest canopies with spectral resolution of 10 nm across the visible and near-infra-red. These data will be used to compute spectral ratios such as NDVI to infer carbon content in both old-growth and harvested forests.
CaNOP was selected in 2016 by NASA's CubeSat Launch Initiative (CSLI) to be launched as part of the ELaNa program.
