IKUNS (Italian-Kenyan University NanoSatellite) is a 6U CubeSat developed by the University of Nairobi, Kenya and Sapienza University of Rome.
IKUNS is a project for the development of a nanosatellite for Earth Observation applications, by a joint team of Italian and Kenyan University students. The mission requirements are for a CUBESAT standard satellite with a nominal mass lower than 10 kg featuring an optical payload in visual band. It is focused on the target areas East Africa and Italy and is to provide 10 images of area of interest per day with a ground resolution better than 150 m.
The satellite is a 6U CubeSat. The optical instrument is a NanoCamera with a ground resolution of 47 m at an orbotal height of 500 km. At the end of the 2 year mission, it is to deploy a de-orbiting sail to remove it from orbit.
