RADSAT-SK (IDRSat)

RADSAT-SK [University of Saketchewan]

RADSAT-SK is a Canadian 3U CubeSat developed by University of Saketchewan.

RADSAT-SK has three technical objectives:

  • validation and testing of a new type of radiation dosimeter being developed by faculty at the College of Engineering. This new type of sensor is much smaller and cheaper than current space-grade dosimeters.
  • testing the use of high-concentration melanin as a radiation shield in space. This research is also being conducted at the University of Saketchewan by faculty at the college of pharmacology.
  • testing earth-imaging camera on-board in the hope to capture some images of Saskatchewan from space for public outreach.

The satellite was launched onboard the Dragon CRS-28 cargo spacecraft to the ISS, from where it was deployed in July 2023.
